So guys, I was wondering if anyone here is into making beats/music/whatever. I'm trying out some experimental stuff lately. So I went ahead and bought a korg KP3. I'm already using a microkorg alongside ableton live. I have guitar hook ups as well. Point of the matter is, i'm trying to get a really different sound similar to a shoegazing/ambient/post rock/electronica type thing? I don't know, it's hard to describe. Basically, it's somewhat similar to the sound in this vid
Imo, this guy is on equipment overkill though. He has an electribe and an additional step sequencer, plus an akai xr-20. In addition he has a kaossilator and a mini kp. And of course the microkorg and a mixer....
So my question to any of you that have experience in such a thing is. Should I invest in a kaosillator pro or an electribe? What would be the difference between the two? Also, I guess I don't really need a stand alone mixer at this point since i'm running everything through ableton live and I have a midi controller/mixer for that anyways. But yeah, any feedback would be cool!
I've always really wanted to get into it. I really want to do some type of musical project. A couple songs or something. Even if it was just instrumental. I haven't studied up at all though, so can't answer your questions, sorry
you could get into sampling, which is the cowards way imo....If you have the money, you should invest in piano lessons and a synthesizer. Lessons can be tedious yes, but trust me, they will pay off once you can actually play. Creating chord progressions and melodies on synths is the coolest thing ever. If you just wanna stick with sampling, I would look into the Akai MPC series. Roland makes some good sampling machines too.
The kaossilator pro is a lot nicer than the electribe id say, but if you have talent as a producer it shouldnt matter. The kPro has some really cool effects and sounds, but its a bit pricey.
Luckily I already play piano and have a pretty damn good synth in the microkorg I was really just looking for an all around product that I could use for a drum machine/vocoder alongside the microkorg. I think the kaossilator pro fits my needs and does everything very well. The more sounds, the better..you know? Anyways, really all of this stuff is redundant because of ableton live's capabilities, but VST's get tedious to operate and i'm more of a hands on person. We'll see how it goes. I went ahead and ordered the kaossilator pro and the KP3. We'll see how the whole thing goes. I'll post some tracks eventually!
ahh, the money spending phase. I bought an Akai MPC 1000, iMac G5 and went at it. diggin' that crate. Man, I need to go to a thrift shop.
there is no such thing as equipment overkill. you never know when a piece of equipment will come in handy and sometimes it takes 12 different components to create one distinct sound. i say get the MPC or the maschine (they have a education discount if ur a student. cuts the price in half basically.) very nice song btw in that vid. that ugly chick has skillz and an amazing voice.
