No, but most of the writers/producers chose Boston... Unless we can get some writers from Houston to write a script for a crime movie as Houston the setting than we can't really complain...

One thing I liked about Heat was that it was a cops and robbers movie that was great on its own. It didn't try to build up something great or mysterious about LA where it was set. It was purely about the heists and the characters. This whole Boston and Charleston full of robbers who live in the same area irks me...it's not a reality that exists.

Wow. This movie is getting talk of Oscar nomination. I haven't seen it yet, but I hope it doesn't get it over Inception.

South boston in the 70's- larry bird era was somewhat ghetto, gritty... chinatown in boston I know for a fact is still ghetto as hell...

Analyzing whether Boston has the 'street cred' to merit such storylines in movies is ridiculous. It's like questioning some rapper if he was shot enough times or spent enough time in jail to rap with legitimacy. Funny thing was all the Indian guys were riled up with how India was portrayed in SlumDog Millionaire. "Oh India is not that poor". Close enough. The plot works with the geographic setting. Besides, it's just a movie.

Saw this today and thought it was really good, and I'm not a big fan of Affleck's.

That was the movie that made me have to admit that Ben Affleck has some serious talent as a writer/director.

93% on rottentomatoes is pretty legit, great cast (Renner, Hamm)... Looks like it should be a good one.

Agreed. I didn't really take him seriously until Gone Baby, Gone.

One of the best films of the year. Great cast, nice direction, good sound editing. Hard thing to arouse sympathy for characters that do very bad things...but this film succeeded in that.

Really wanted to like it. Loved "Gone Baby Gone", but this movie was garbage. So many plot holes and scenes that didn't make any sense. I was very disappointed in it.

This movie wasn't great at all. It was very predictable. I thought Ben was ok even though I think he's pretty weak. Overall... the movie was very overrated.

For some reason, I like movies that are filmed in Boston. The ones that come to my mind are Good Will Hunting, The Departed, Mystic River and the Edge of Darkness.
