Trying to trade Yao at this point is like Steve Jobs dumping Apple stock right before the launch of a major product. It's self-defeating. Putting him up on a trade would lower his trade value, while also forgoing any potential upside in case he actually has recovered. It's completely irrational. Luckily Morey went to MIT for b-school and understands how to manage assets.

The reality is that Yao, when healthy is a rare big who is dominant on offense and has consistently anchored one of the top defenses in the L. The Rox have him (or he has the Rox) on the hook for one more season on his current contract. Getting a player with a similar impact as him when he's healthy is a lot harder than you think. Luckily we have a year to figure out whether his reconstructive surgery was successful. If so, we get a dominant big man that gives us a legit chance at contending. If not, we've got a max contract that expires in a year that allows us to rebuild. This is a great position to be in.

Because of the uncertainty over his health, there isn't another team that would be willing to gamble on him, especially if we put him on the block. If we put him up on the trading block, his value plummets immediately since every other team would assume that he is not healthy. We would only get a bunch of crap contracts back in return. And there would be no point in taking on expiring contracts either since his contract ends this year.

The best play is to play out our hand this year and re-evaluate in the summer.

You're right, we can win with yao only playing 24 mins a game. But how many games can we win? A fully healthy, 35 minute yao can help us win 55 games. 24 min Yao will probably only get us 45-48 wins which won't gurantee us a playoff spot.

I love Yao as a person and a player, but the team should not be built around him. If he is available, fine, if he isn't, so be it. The careers of all the other players and whole franchise should not be limited by all the uncertainties surrounding him. This year is the final chapter or the beginning of a new book. If he holds up well and plays all year, then maybe there is a future with him. If not, thanks for the memories, and move forward.

Who do you want him to go after???

    LBJ
    WADE

    or wait....Boozer.....

If the Rockets really wanted to trade Yao, it would have been done, sure at a discounted rate, but if they were ready to move, they would of done it.

    end of story.

Shouldve been gone after the 08 injury. The shackles are still weighing the rockets down for just a good not great player. Good guy, hard worker and I'm sure he will be fine wherever he goes. No team in the league can plan around "their best player" on the verge of going down every year. Pat him on the back, thanks for everything, and go let some other franchise deal with it.Its not like the team has been tearing up the league with him anyway. The 94 Jaguar is just too much of a headache no matter how good it looks.

they don't necessarily want to trade yao, but they're moving on from making him as the building/central piece. that's obvious. yao is a cash cow after all, and when he does play, he can still be very effective, particularly defensively.

but morey knows yao no longer is a franchise player. and hence you see him DESPERATELY gathering up assets and trying to get that superstar. he failed at bosh. but he's still looking.

    Not yet.
Even if he really does only play 24 mins/game, and his production drops a bit, he's still probably better than 90% of the centers Houston could get. In addition, I question whether the 24 minute limit will actually be held up, like people are panicking about. I still feel confident that Yao and the team assembled now, can compete quite seriously.

Oh wait, we might get Fesenko...oh thank God.
His 2ppg is going to save us at the center position.

And by the way, Morey went after Bosh to play ALONGSIDE Yao, not to be the franchise's new "face", especially considering he looks like an alien from avatar.

Its the GM job to get good pieces regardless who is playing on team.

If LBJ was on this team, our GM still better be finding pieces to improve the team.

Bosh as a Center piece is a joke. We saw what he can do in Toronto.....

How quickly people turn on players in Houston.
Just the other day everyone was excited about Yao.
Info. about his minutes surface, and now nearly 40% are ready to give up on him.

    CF is great.

Move past the Yao saga for what? The legend of Jordan Hill? The era of Fesenko? The Aaron Brooks trilogy?

That's all good and everything but let me ask you this question.

Who is coming to the Rockets to save us? You replace Yao with Lopez and we still ain't beating the Lakers/Heat/Magic.

Wishing Yao to be gone and actually having a plan to replace him is a different thing. Would you rather have a small chance to win a championship or rebuild for the next 5 years because apparently we can only get our superstar through a draft....

    Bosh - No
    Melo - What??
Chris Paul - Where is melo going?
Wade- Locked up for 5 years
LBJ - Locked up for 5 years
Bosh - Locked up for 5 years
Kobe - old and retiring as a Laker

What is your backup plan to insure Rockets have a chance to actually win it?
Who will you trade Yao for? What will you trade Yao for? A bucket of KFC?

Anyway you got 1 season left or possible multiple season. You better pray Yao gets hurt......if not you may as well prepare your material for the next 3-4 years.

and now you give bosh brooks, kmart... in a tailor-made adelman's system, he can fulfill his talent even more. sometimes, it's also the situation you are in.

again, you don't have to start dissing players here. a franchise player isn't limited by ANYTHING. yao is limited and he hasn't even played a game. morey knows that probably 2 months ago and now it's just leaking out.

morey is planning for the future. and yao can be a part of that future. but yao is no longer fit to be a franchise player like he has been. i don't think it's even arguable.

It was you who said Morey wanted to get past Yao so he tried to get Bosh.......sorry i only provided feedback.....

ITS the GM job to get good players regardless who was our franchise player. If that isn't true, than no need to have a discussion.

he is trying to get past yao as our "main" player. look at all the moves he has done.

there's a difference trying to get players to "fit" your main guy and just trying to get guys to fit the team.
