This is actually a really darn good question...........one I never thought about. I'm pretty sure I use both. I'm pretty sure I naturally say: Buffalo Buy-yo I'm also pretty sure I naturally say: Houston is the Buy-you city.
Interesting, my first reaction was its by-you. But I think say by-yo when referring to Buffalo bayou.
How can that be wrong, He's Hank fargin Williams, he kind of sets the standard. But this from a Louisiana website: After Hank Williams Sr recorded his version with the new words, Cajuns re-recorded Jambalaya with Hank Williams' words translated into Cajun French. Cajuns now consider the song to be one of our own songs. (By the way, Hank Williams mispronounced the word "Bayou". Hank pronounced it as "by-oh" when the correct pronunciation is "by-you". I guess he needed something to rhyme with "me oh my oh". http://www.cajunradio.org/wordscajun3.html Like Cajuns even talk American. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9Y-4tCZwozE?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9Y-4tCZwozE?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
