Exactly, what makes anyone ASSUME that Yao will be playing his normal minutes by the playoffs?

Morey is OBVIOUSLY preparing and purposely lowering Yao's future FA value.

His public minute limit and offers to 2 Centers is all about scaring teams away from Yao next offseason.

I believe Morey is doing this to convince Yao's agent to sign an extension lower than Yao's agent expects form the open market.

He did the same with Landry publicly commenting on his knee.

Then what are you doing in this thread, which is predicated on an assumption that Yao will play 24 minutes the rest of his career? I'm just asking that if we're going to discuss a hypothetical, that we bear that hypothetical out to its logical conclusions. You want to take the worst of both worlds -- limited minutes and injuries. The whole point of limiting minutes is to avoid injuries.

Of course he can still get injured. But, if you're going to count on it, the obvious answer is $0; he's not worth re-signing.

$10 mil immediately jumped to mind.

As we've seen, mediocre players get overpaid due to demand. Some team could be desperate enough to land a player of his stature, minutes be damned, to show the fans that they made a move in the offseason and bump that number up to ~$12 mil.

The only team that would sign Yao for the Max (if they has cap room) would be Wolves and only Wolves.

I'd rather pay marc gasol 8-9m for his 15-9 in 35 than 24 mins of yao. The only one who really dispute this are the ones who complain about brooks. Is that something or what?

    I'd rather have a 7'6 Center for 24 minutes than a Midget for 44....

A broken down Yao is worth more on the open market than Brooks will be this offseason. Is that something or what?

Yao Ming will get a max contract somewhere. The amount of money he brings in far exceeds his salary.

take 'er easy, sleazy. i was joking.

you're right...my best guess is the man will end up with another injury. but i realize we're stuck with making the best of 24 mins/night.

He'll get a contract where the team doesn't care about winning, only maximizing profits.

Clippers seem to be a great fit for him.

Not really, because Yao is eligible for an extension, right now.......maybe the team makes an offer of $10 million per annum for 3 years...just to be sure he is healthy?

But it'll be dumb for Morey to offer him an extension right now. What if the 24 pins pop out of his foot come playoff time?

That would be the risk the organization is taking.....but honestly if they limit him to 24 minutes how are they going to know that he can hold up for more?

It all depends on how well he plays, how many minutes he ends up playing, if he gets injured, if he retires, if he goes on a playoff run, etc.
