Hey guys, question for those of you who might know about these things..

I am looking for a new edger/weed-eater thing, and I want to stay with an electric one, but none of them that I can find seem to be compatible with the better blades/string modules... they all say 'compatible with gas trimmers'.. are there any decent electric trimmers which can use those modules which claim to only be compatible with the gas trimmers?

I hope this makes sense, I am really trying to avoid having to get a gas powered machine..

    thanks gang

I had an electric black and decker and it was a piece of crap. I finally spent the money to buy a gas one and it was a great purchase.

I had a Werx electric trimmer that said it was comparable to a gas line trimmer. It was a bull **** claim. That thing would barely cut through a piece of paper, much less thick St. Augustine.

I, too, had an electric trimmer that I ended up throwing away because it was so weak.

Funny thing about weed trimmers. They seem overpriced, but you end up getting what you pay for.

Just get a gas trimmer and follow the directions. It will last for years with the proper off season maintenance.

I have an Echo straight shaft and it rules. As soon as i bought it though I changed out the head for this one.

It was 25 bucks and takes the frustration out of trimming. The important thing about a gas trimmer is make sure it is a commercial class engine. The bad brands say right on the trimmer rated for 50 hours. The better brands like Kawasaki, Shindaiwa and Echo say 300 hours.

This. I actually tried to do the B&D rechargeable one. Couldn't get through my front yard w/o having to recharge it. On average, took 3 attempts to finish my entire yard.

    Get a gas one.

I was given the new Worx electric trimmer that has the rotating base to an edger. Works great for me. Have never had a problem cutting anything and the battery life is fantastic.

Battery powered trimmers are worthless. If you want to go electric, get a corded one. I have a B&D cordless, and it's a waste of money.

Gas is better, but the B&D electric one works fine for me.

Initially it took both the batteries for me to trim the front, but after the first time it only uses one battery now. Next time I purchase a trimmer, I'll definitely get a gas one.

Can anyone comment on the blade/strings on the gas trimmers? The ones on the B&D is pretty bad and don't last very long.

Oh no no no guys, I would NEVER use a rechargeable one, those are a joke.

I just mean a good strong corded one.

SO it sounds like you guys are saying that there are not any corded electric ones that are compatible with the 'gas trimmer' heads.

I don't get it. Why? It's not like a corded one can't have a strong motor too.

I just hate hate HATE those stupid little spools and I spend 80% of my time screwing around with those instead of getting the yard done.

My guess is, if someone made one where you could snap one of those gas heads onto it, it would eat into their much more expensive gas trimmer market too much.. GRRRR

I loathe electric weedwhackers. The cord is effing annoying and I have a huge yard.

Is that the one on the infomercial? That thing looks bad ass, but you never know what you're going to get when you order something from TV.

    So you would recommend it?

I have a gas craftsman. The thing I like best about is it uses those precut lines. Just feed a new one thru and you are on your way. No spools to mess with.

It is the one on the infomercial.

It works awesome for me. Mind you I do not have a huge yard, but the backyard requires me to use it quite a bit because of planters and such.

It has worked perfectly for me. We've had it for about 90 days now and have used it once a week. I've had no problem at all. It's never failed to cut anything and I've never had it run out of juice. I put it back on the charger after two weeks just to make sure I didn't run it down.

    I would recommend it.
