That's a viable option, I don't remember where but I recall one of the Stros' radio guys speaking about Puma wanting to play the outfield so Lee could play 1st. Puma, like all of us, saw that Lee was having all kind of issues in the outfield and thought he might be better able to help out while Lee could be a better defensive 1st baseman then we all knew. Saying that, if we do get rid of Lee, I rather stay in house and let Bogey or JD Martinez get a shot at that position. I want to see what those guys can do, especially Bogey, and save some cash for the draft, international signings, player development or even a bargain pitching pickup like Myers was this season.
That's just a bad idea. Sticking kids in the minors for way longer than they should have been there has been one of the major complaints about the Astros for years...and you want to do it with Wallace who has already dominated at every level of the minors? Lance can come back, but like it was suggested, I'd only do it if Lee can be moved and he agrees to play LF.
Exactly. The worst thing this team could do is try to short-circuit the rebuilding process again. They finally got this right - it's time to let the young guys play and build for the future instead of wasting a season on vets hoping for a miracle.
I like having Lee at 1B. I'd love to see Wallace/Lee/BB splitting time with each other between LF/1B. Of course I'd rather trade Lee, but I'm going to assume that won't happen, at least not in the offseason.
http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/t...rad-mills-quietly-has-astros-playing-well.php Since June 1st - Phillies 53-37 Giants 52-38 Braves 51-39 Stros 50-39 Means we are only 2.5 games out of having the best record in the NL...
Not saying he could or should win, but does Brett Myers at least deserve some Cy Young votes? Era is below 3, and he's gone at least 6 in every game this season. There's been fewer that have been more consistently solid than Myers. I still think it's funny how everyone was saying earlier this season "just wait...his numbers indicate he's going to blow up at some point!"...and yet, he's been one of the better starters in the NL. I'm glad they signed him.
Too many good pitchers this year(Jimenez/Wainwright/Hudson/Halladay/Latos/Johnson/Garcia). Myers and Oswalt are right behind that group though, along with Chris Carpenter. I loved the signing from the beginning. Obviously he's been even better than I expected. He was working out of trouble early in the season, suggesting that he was ready to adjust back to his career norms in ERA as well. The last couple of months though he has been great in every aspect of pitching. A true ace this season.
I never thought they would continue to play hard as their doing now. Maybe next year this team can actually do something.
14-6 for .500! Not looking good now. Need at least 3-4 game win streak starting tomorrow for a chance. That ump missing the bunt foul in the 9th killed it today. There needs to be replay for that and we might be 13-7 to get .500 instead. I still believe we can do it, Go 'Stros!
12-6 to get to .500! Football season has us forgetting about the 'stros but there is still a reason to watch. 81 wins says something when your a young squad
It's possible, but unlikely. Winning twice as many games as you lose is tough for any baseball team, let alone one whose true talent level is probably still below .500. My money is still on the mark it was at before the season started: 77 wins.
So happy to be able to enjoy watching an Astros game. It was a pretty masochistic experience for the first half. 11-6 is very possible in my opinion. Question: Is Angel Sanchez a viable option at short next year or is he ideally a sub middle infielder that would spell Kep and our starter at SS next season? I ask because I think we're a legitimate hitter away from being a good offense... and yes, I'm banking on Wallace, and Castro improving offensively and CJ having nearly as good a year next year. So I guess what I'm wondering is WHERE do we add that free agent bat? Our outfielders, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & C are very unlikely to be replaced at this point, which leaves a bit of a hole at short (not to mention the money and talent vacuum "playing" left field). Just soliciting opinions...
The thing is, when you start talking about adding FAgents then we also have to consider losing draft picks and that isn't very smart right now. If they believe Hunter Pence is the real deal now and Norris/Paulino have finally turned some type of corner, then the most logical move is to look and see what you can get for Wandy. He has value and maybe none higher then this offseason after his impressive 2nd half. I am a fan of Brignac from Tampa Bay, the kid can play defense and certainly hit, he is blocked at 2nd/SS in Tampa so a move almost certainly will have to be made. If they do decide to look at FAgents, I would look at cheap pitching and hope to hit the jackpot like they did with Myers.
From this point on the Astros need to finish off Mil tonight and win 2 games in each of the rest of their series to end up 81-81. I believe they can do it with the opponents they have left. I think they have a chance to sweep Pit and Wash if they play it right the only thing that worries me is that they have had trouble with the Reds. I'll be optimistic and say they make it, but wouldn't be surprised if they fall a game or 2 short.
We had the comeback win and two doubles later in the 9th I knew we blew it. I'm glad to see this young team be able to climb back and take the lead after being down 5-0 although moral victories aint gettin us closer to .500! 11-5 to get there and thats with 6 games left with the Reds, 3 home/3 away. 4 at Washington, 3 at Pittsburgh and ending the season with 3 at home with the Cubs. I'm starting to think we'll end at 79-83 but we could also go on a huge run at the end. Keep believing Reds- 2-1 (h) Nats- 3-1 (a) Pirates- 2-1 (a) Reds- 2-1 (a) Cubs- 2-1 (h) That could do it but it is asking a lot! If we go 3-3 with Reds we would have to sweep at least one of the others but hopefully they have things in hand for the last series against them and they are resting starters.
The only position we should really look to "fix" is shortstop, but the free agent shortstops in this year's upcoming class stink. There aren't any I would want to add. Trade might be a better possibility. Boston has a surplus. So does Tampa Bay. Or maybe the rule 5 draft if the price in prospects is too high to trade for a shortstop.
Reds- 2-1 (h) (check) Nats- 3-1 (a) Pirates- 2-1 (a) Reds- 2-1 (a) Cubs- 2-1 (h) Keepin it up, 9-4 to go! This upcoming Nats series is huge for the goal!
