Usually I'm able to work my charm with Comcast but I'm not sure if they had internal policy changes or what happened, my charm has only gotten me a $20 discount on the month. UNSATISFACTORY. I've been having issues with my HD channels being pixelated, and I just downgraded the internet because they jacked up the price.

SO I'm trying to make the switch and here are the options:

AT&T U-Verse : Heard mixed reviews. Heard HD on here sucks.

DishTV : Heard HD is great, customer service is bad, and contract is 24/mo

DirectTV: Heard mostly good things, and got a GREAT package deal over the phone from customer service. Also they do internet in parternship with local providers.

So here's a typical list of stuff on my must watch:
    FX
    Comedy Central
    NBA TV
    NFL TV
    ESPN
    HBO
    Spike
    Comcast Sports Net
    VS

    and the locals.

Also I had 20/mbps speed from Comcast which I now downgraded to 1.5/mbps. :(

I was offered the following by DirectTV:
1 HD DVR Reciever + 1 Standard Reciever
    NFL Sunday Ticket - Free
    AT&T Internet Service - 6/mbps
225 Channels + HD For Life
    Free Installation
    No Equipment Rentals/Purchase
    12 mo. agreement

    $74.99

Or I could go with the non-NFL sunday ticket package, with the rest being the same except 210 channels instead of 225, and the price would be $50/mo/12 mo contract.

These both sound awesome to me; I was paying Comcast $54 for their 2nd tier HD cable package + $19.99 for 1.5/mbps internet. The only discount I was getting was on the HD cable package (normal retail $74).

Also someone had mentioned few weeks ago about referrals and bonuses.

Insight and advice please. I also wouldn't mind keeping comcast cable and bumping the speed backup to 20/mbps (i need my speed on internet more then tv).

    Thoughts/insight appreciated.

Dish Network DVRs are crap. They are hard to maneuver around and break down at least once a year. Then they send you a refurbished one to replace it and tell you that it's brand new. Also, Dish Network goes out every time is so much as sprinkles.

That said, their HD quality is so good that it's actually worth all the hassle mentioned above.

I have UVerse and have had no issues with it. But I'd trade it all for a year of Sunday Ticket...

Have you used DirecTV's DVR? General consensus is Dish's receivers are better, but everything else is subpar, including picture quality.

I simply like DirecTV because their CS is better (not to be mistaken for good, they are both horrible, its just Dish is that bad).

A tidbit many people don't know; The installer you get can vary greatly and the installation business is not pretty at all. DirecTV receivers will not activate unless they meet a certain signal level threshold. In other wards, once your DirecTV is activated, you know it will not be going out with the first cloud or drizzle.

I've heard DirectTV is better than Dish, but Dish is the only company I can bundle with my phone/internet company, so I really didn't have a choice.

As far as picture, I've always heard that satellite HD is much better than cable HD.

I think when we move, we're going to ditch Dish and go with DirectTV instead.

My parents had a hell of a time with Dish. Boxes kept crapping out and it took them forever to get HD set up in their house. Once it was, it rarely worked. I think they had something like 7 service calls. After the 7th call AND the hd-dvr crapped out, the switched immediately to DirectTv and love it so far.

I ditched my local Cable provider for DirectTV about 2 months ago.

Couldn't be happier. Signal only gets disrupted in the strongest of thunder storms.

    HD is SUPERB!

DVR....We have the Whole Home DVR service (like an additional $3 on top of the DVR service).

Also, I love how you can set your DVR to record from cellphones / computers.

Damn that's a nice deal with Sunday Ticket! Only a 12 month contract too? I'm stuck in a 48 month contract, but got some damn good deals.

Psst...you should use me as a referral and get back $100 on your account. ;)

Comcast is the WORST!!! Direct TV is the way to go my friend. The only catch with direct tv is that if there is any service call you will have to pay $50 a time for each visit by a technician or Pay a $5.00 monthly fee for a maintence(SP?) charge, that is only stated in the Fine print. Nice way to raise your monthly fee by $5.00 but other than that the customer service is great and the mobile DVR control is AWESOME.

Dish sucked ass. I canceled that after only 6 months or so. Atrocious signal quality.

Those deals look really nice - I may call DirectTV myself...

If you go Direct TV, and want $100 back in rebate credit onto your account. Let me know.

If you put me down as a referral, we both get back $100. :)

Email me through the board for info.

    Thanks!

DirecTV is good. I have been with them for 3+ years and have seldom had problems.

    I'd go with UVerse...

I have Dish, and it is terrible. I'd rather lock in a lifelong contract with Comcast than 1 more year of Dish.

If you're talking about price, then yeah I agree with you. DirecTV has never had the cheapest service though, so I would never count that as a reason for being with them. If you're willing to pay for it, they really can't be matched as far as programming and quality. And as great as the Redzone channel is, it's nowhere near the level of being able to watch full games, not to mention all of the extra's that you get with Sunday ticket like fantasy tracker and game mix.

To the OP, if you want the cheapest option, don't go with DirecTV. If you want the best option, go with DirecTV.

Hated hated hated DirecTV. I always liked Dish Network.

The system itself sucks. You almost have to jump to a new provider every two years to get a good price.

We solved the problem by ditching our TV and going without cable.
