Bobcats -- wow -- just announced release of Erick Dampier. Which means Damp will get to pick his next destination after clearing waivers

Bobs GM Rod Higgins: “We explored several trade possibilities involving Erick, but ultimately have been unable to find a viable option ..."

He was always a salary dump this off-season and was probably marketed as such. This is not surprising whatsoever.

Looks like he'll sign the vet-minimum with the Heat. Never thought I'd use this phrase in regards to Erika Dampier, but the rich get richer. He brings decent post D and rebounding they desperately need.

This is me assuming that's where he wants to be.

Wow, I know what Rockets fans think of Erick Dampier but I cannot think of a more perfect center for the Heat. Low usage, high efficiency, high rebound rate, good defensive center.

    Unsurprisingly, he likes the Heat.

Just spoke F/A center Dampier, just cut by Charlotte. Said he doesn't have pecking order, but likes what Heat has done.

    WallaceNBAHeat

Dampier to Miami Herald: "I haven't talked to my agent yet. We'll go from there. I can still play game at a high level."

no shocker here. he would give the heat a pretty solid inside presence if he does sign with them

Bosh would be able to play the 4 more often than not then, which is what he wanted. Do they even have the space for this though?

Realistically the Rockets couldn't use him. Their front court is now too loaded (sans a Yao Ming injury) and he's probably not in the mood to attain Brian Cook status.

Dampier would be a fabulous pickup for the Heat. He doesn't need to score, just play D, rebound, and get garbage points. It's the perfect counter to Dwight, and he's a big physical presence to bang with Boston.

Damn, I really hoped the Heat would be thwarted by the salary cap from filling out their roster, but they've got a solid cast of role players around their Big 3. A Dampier signing kind of puts them over the top in my book, and I'd have to list them as Eastern Conference favorites.

But with Shaq heading to Boston, he could be the best center in the west!

He really would make the Heat big favorites, answers the only big question they had (dealing with Dwight Howard)

Bobcats took a gamble that they could flip his contract for a difference maker, but no dice. The only real news is that they gave up their only real big (Chandler) for payroll relief. I hope it's worth it, because this is a serious blow to their hopes to stick around as a playoff team. That's a sad looking frontcourt that has to deal with plenty of Eastern Conference upper tier bigs.

This means he loses $13M since his last year was non-guaranteed money, right? If so, that's gotta hurt going from a $13M to a minimum payday. What a bargain to be had for the second best center in the L...

They really should've waited for the deadline .. When Teams are ready to firesell .. But that's more costly ..
    MJ is Stingy ..

Dampier in Heat would be great. He's be useful for almost any team, actually. He was highly productive last season in relatively limited minutes.

The Heat only have the minimum to offer. Hopefully some other team will offer him more, maybe the MLE.

Or who knows, maybe someone with capspace will overpay for him. If it keeps him away from the Heat, I'm all for it.

I'm going to go against the grain and say Dampier won't do much for the Heat, except on a situational basis. He is not a good player because he plays dumb and doesn't play hard.

Or maybe he miraculously goes out and plays hard every night next season for the first time since his contract year ages ago at Golden State where he put up 12/12 and baited Mark Cuban into giving him a stupid contract.
