So I just quit my job about 30 minutes ago. I am graduating this semester and I have worked in the restaurant industry for nearly 6 years, just recently we have had several firings and resignations, one of which included a friend of mine putting "I Hate This Place" on the marquee lol. As much as I wanted to, I didn't create a scene, I sat down with my GM and told him what I thought and why I needed to leave. So now I am curious if any of you clutchfans have some good firing/quitting stories that maybe involve an F you or two : ) Sorry to any of you who were expecting an epic story from me, hopefully someone else will post a good one cause I need some entertainment : /
indeed life is easy when you're young, the job was pointless, i waited tables for extra cash, i've worked since i was 16 i've got savings, plus i was literally making like 100 bucks a week working 2 crappy shifts and i really could use the sunday off to study. had no desire to get a new job, but i guess no one has any funny stories. i just wanted to have some amusement after making $14 dollars and having a fat redneck leave you 1.61 and dirty diaper...o and btw this lady also told me it was too hot....I WAS WORKING THE F#$KING PATIO
I worked the evening shift in the bakery of a grocery store chain for a brief while, but grew to hate it more and more each day. Finally, in the middle of my shift, I got on the P.A. and called the store manager to the bakery. When he got there, I handed him my apron, said "Here ya go" and just walked out. The store called me several times that day, and again the next day, but I never talked to them again. They just mailed me my last check. Felt good, man. Felt good.
Restaurant and food service industry is some of the most thankless work or some of the most demographically defined work. Anglo Saxon Protestant to the front, minorities to the back, "The Man" in control. Some places its like an audition everyday. No wonder would-be-actors and performers take it up. Not really a triumphant parting - A long time ago when I was about to leave my restaurant job and move out of the state, I gave the apartment complex I was moving into the job number to reference me. I didnt give the job advance notice that I was bailing. So the apartment complex half a country away asking about me pretty much let them know I had bigger things going on than their sorry asses. So the next day it was "whats this we heard, you're leaving?" It wasn't the best decision really. Them knowing I was a lame duck employee the next couple weeks, they held it against me and it sucked going there even more So you either gotta hit them hard then split, or do it fair for both sides. No in-between.
Well I was a Finance intern at a fortune 500 (used to be in the top 100 consistently but i think they dropped out of the top 100 spots just barely this year) company in my senior year of college After the Fall semester, I was totally ready to quit anyway since I thought everyone was just too damn grumpy, too cocky over nothing, talked too much trash about other people behind closed office doors and I generally just hated the "office politics" crap. Then in January my boss sat me down and said they didn't have the budget for my LOL INTERN SALARY anymore after this quarter. So I just said my thanks for getting my resume longer and...that was it. Oh and she promised me a whole lot of stuff about how we can have some talks and maybe even dinner to consolidate my intern experience into usable resume and interview material and stuff, never took up her offer on it. So I guess I'm just ungrateful. Later my mom found out about it and gave me a whole bunch of chocolates to give to my co workers as a parting gift on my last day, was totally tempted to just eat them all but ended up giving them to those guys anyway. Oh well, not really that exciting.
I was unceremoniously forced to resign once, not knowing that this could impact my ability to receive unemployment benefits. So, prior to going to see an attorney about the matter, I requested my personal file from my old employer. They told me I had to pay 10 cents per page copied, for a total of $3.10. I paid the $3.10 in pennies as a last "F you" to them. And I got my unemployment. Bastards.
Or you could, you know, give them two weeks notice. I haven't had any problems with animosity when I give notice and I've worked various jobs. Usually not being deceptive helps.
In before the post padding douche backs that have nothing worthwhile to say ruin a thread. Oops too late.
