This movie has Htown in it, based on a true story <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OkgqA_fxas8?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OkgqA_fxas8?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
Heard about it couple of weeks ago from a friend of my girl. The premise seemed crap to me when they told me about it but when I actually read a description of the movie, it looked really good to me. I'm looking forward to watching it. I'm guessing it'll be limited release right?
:33 $20s didn't look like that until recently. is it bad that that's the only thing i remembered about this trailer after it was over?
Oilers references, old-timey Chronicle lettering and fey Sam Neill look-alikes (that hand to the chest was priceless). All we need is Markie Post and Alvin Greene to play Whitmire and Chief Brown and I'm in. Someone should make a Wire or Tom Wolfe-type show about Houston in the '80s, but with sports and zoning.
So I finally saw this movie and I have to say it was very good. Didn't know about all of this stuff in the early 80s in Houston. Lots of Htown in the movie obviously. really good story and it's all true.
Wait, let me get this stright. His a dude, whose a ballet dancer, that falls in love, with a girl? I'm not buying it.
this really did happen <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UbIFdwViKcU?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UbIFdwViKcU?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> dude's story is pretty amazing <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kro5tRdKq0Q?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kro5tRdKq0Q?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
At first I thought it was gonna be some badass ninja movie cus the little kid was training in some temple and stuff....COOL!! .....then I saw a man in tights doing ballet.
dude was popular in htown in the 80s. he hooked up with hot ballet chicks. jackie chan started out in Opera school. i'm surprised this film doesn't get much pub in houston, it's obviously filmed there and it's all about the history of the houston ballet and arts.
here's the article i found on the chronicle http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/7152191.html How unlikely is this? A Houston arts story escalates into an international incident; the story inspires a best-selling book; and a creative team with Oscar credentials makes it a feature film.
I don't see the big deal. The story is more about the GUY, and about CHINA, than it is about HOUSTON. This could have happened anywhere.. Cool story bro but I don't see the big deal about the significance of Houston in this movie/story. Apollo 13 however, "We have a problem, Houston" is definitely something Houstonians should be proud of.
Actually, I probably wouldn't even bother watching this film if it didn't have Houston as a setting. I'm looking forward to seeing the Oilers cap.
it's out now at the River Oakes Theater http://landmarktheatres.com/Market/Houston/Houston_Frameset.htm
