Tmac will be the highest bidder. I still think Ron is an idiot, and on the basketball floor, I hate his game..... But, this is a very classy move.....so off the court, Ron is good, on the court....nightmare...do not want. DD
You don't think he's already doing that? This is pretty significant. A championship ring. For a man that switched teams specifically for that purpose. I'm impressed. I think Ron has found his nitch playing a clean Dennis Rodman for Kobe. You can see more and more his jovial goofy stupid personality coming out and he is building on that instead of torquing it into violence and destructive actions and words. This also gives him plenty of motivation to work "like a dog" to get another ring. Pretty cool.
WOW, Ron is a pretty cool guy afterall.. I personally would have kept my ring no matter what, but thats me. So like a said nice move by Artest.
Artest isn't being generous, just crazy. There are better ways to achieve the publicity he wants, but nah, he's going to sell of the ring on the cheap. Team mates be damned...
Ron makes what 6 million a year? and thats pre-tax considering the lifestyle he has he probably spends and supports a lot of people already. he probably will be able to sell the ring for money money than he could realistically want to donate. also the publicity of it. actually there are plenty of ridiculously wealthy laker fans out there and considering how rare it is for a player's ring to be up for sale I wouldnt be surprised if this ring fetched over 200k. The rings themselves are worth several thousands of dollars based on the jewels and gold on the ring. (I think I remember reading that based on the craftsmanship, # of diamonds and gold the 2009 championship ring was valued at 25-30k) You rarely see player rings go on the market and when they do its usually the 11 or 12th man on the bench (earl cureton anyone?) that needs the cash. While Ron Artest is no Kobe or Gasol he is no scrub and a major figure (for better or worse) in the NBA. Its a huge sacrifice on Ron's part maybe he believes that he will get another ring in 2011 so he can sell this one but it could be the only ring Ron artest will ever win. I am curious to see what it will go for and impressed again with Ron, he is an oddball but he tries to do the right thing
What exactly should i think about? I didnt say he can make a "mistake" at any time, which would apply to anyone. I said he could do something completely screwed up. There's a difference.
I love love Ron Ron. This is an awesome gesture. I think the more light that is shed on mental health issues, the more comfortable people will be seeking help. It's awesome to have someone in his position, openly admitting to seeking psychiatric help. The Trevor Ariza shoe throwing thing and going to the Lakers clouded my judgement on Artest for awhile last season until playoffs. Then those post championship interviews really reminded me how great of a guy he is. Artest really does have a big heart, and I loved him when he was in Houston. He added a lot of flair in the 08-09 season with him just running off the court when Kobe hit him in the playoffs, coming into the stands, his Rockets logo haircut, when he got the vo-hawk, & his hilarious post game interviews. That was an unforgettable season. Now I'm getting all teary eyed.
