Pacers F Rose to miss 4-6 weeks with broken wrist

    SportsLine.com wire reports
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indiana Pacers lost another player Thursday when it was discovered that Jalen Rose has a broken left wrist and could miss four to six weeks.
Rose, last year's Most Improved Player, suffered the injury Wednesday night in the third quarter of the Pacers' 91-83 exhibition victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves at Conseco Fieldhouse. He broke his wrist when he fell hard to the floor after scoring on a dunk.
The Pacers will miss Jalen Rose's scoring ability for the next four to six weeks.(Allsport) The injury will not require surgery, but has to be considered serious since Rose shoots with his left hand.
Under new coach Isiah Thomas, the Pacers are already facing an adjustment period after losing three starters from last year's squad, which reached the NBA Finals and lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.
Center Rik Smits retired, point guard Mark Jackson signed as a free agent with the Toronto Raptors and Dale Davis was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for 21-year-old forward-center Jermaine O'Neal and veteran center Joe Kleine.
Rose, 27, scored a team-high 18.2 points per game -- 7.1 more than his previous best -- to go along with 4.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists last season. He also excelled in the playoffs with an average of 20.8 points.
His previous best scoring average was 11.1 points per game in the lockout-shortened 1999 season.
Rose was the 13th pick in the 1994 draft by the Denver Nuggets, for whom he played two seasons before being acquired, ironically, in a deal for Jackson on June 13, 1996.
One of the "Fab Five" at Michigan in the early 1990s and a native of Detroit, Rose has averaged 10.8 points in 438 NBA games.
