I really think the skewed perspective that many, if not most, parents have about the dangers their kids face, leads them to shelter their kids way too much. This article gets at that.

We got enough problems with mothers in America today, without some one like you besmirching the tittle even worse. How low can you get? You have nothing to say for yourself?

You pathetic creature. Low lifted scoundrel crooked self.

    You're a junkie, too.

What I get from this is that our kids should hang out with strangers who have drugs. Preferably in the ghetto, where there are potential snipers but no pools. Also, instead of taking them on a trip to the water park, a safer alternative is Iraq.

I would rate hard drugs higher then their top 5 'real' threats.

And ninjas ahead of school snipers -- but only just.

Ninjas and polar bears aren't on the list of things parents should worry about? My parents warned me everyday of the dangers of the two most deadly creatures on earth. They can be anywhere at anytime waiting to strike. And Polar bear ninjas  ....don't even get me started.

The Penn and Teller Bull**** on "Stranger Danger" was an eye opening show.

I was sleeping one time with the tv on, and it woke me up.

    I have two daughters.

    Worry #1: Stupid boys.
Mitigation: Teach them to think and provide them with the tools needed to keep out of bad situations.

    Worry #2: Car accidents.

I also have two daughters. One who is in her 20's and one who is 3. My list looks like this.

    Worry #1: Car accidents.

Worry #2: Random accidents. Anything involving falling on head, drowning.

Worry #3: Bad life decisions. Putting yourself in dangerous situations with the wrong people.

    Worry #4: Drugs.

    Here's one:

just because a kid trips and falls, doesn't mean he's hurt. my 3 yr old niece and 4 yr old nephew have fallen many times. when they do, i just watch them. they'll just pick themselves up. they'll either cry when they are really hurt or just because the mom immediately runs over. usually, it's the latter.

It's kind of ironic, since I posted the article, but when I was in kindergarten at Red Elementary in SW Houston, a guy actually went on a shooting spree at schools in the area. He killed a girl who lived a few houses down from us. I'll never forget being picked up from school and having to lie on the floor of car as we drove away.

yeah, i used to think so too, but a few weeks ago, a 4 y/o son of a friend of ours took a backwards header off an 8 foot water slide ladder. he's no recovered, but he had significant neurological issues on the right side, couldn't straighten his foot, or point, and double vision.

and my biggest worry is kids wondering away and getting lost, and being unable to communicate who they are or where they live.
