mmmmmm...peanutbutter. Loved it. When I kept it in the pantry. My wife keeps it in the fridge. Some super all-natural organic blend of some sort. Impossible to spread. So I haven't eaten any in ages
It only happens in the natural PB (with no hydrogenated oil) that the bbs food-hippies eat. Pantry for me. Bread products: Fridge or pantry? My wife puts all of our bread and tortillas in the freezer. Drives me CRAZY.
I put tortillas in the fridge if it says to on the package. But I heat those before eating them anyway. I prefer to keep bread in the pantry so that it's softer for cold sandwiches.
it's smooth and rich and creamy just like pb but with a subtle aftertaste of the essence of sunflower seeds... I found it at Trader Joe's as mentioned above and now I look for it at Whole Foods and other markets that have "nutbutter" stations where you can grind up almonds, peanuts, and sunflower seeds yourself...
It happens to regular peanut butter sometimes, but it isn't hard to mix it back together(and the separation is very little). I do put bread in the freezer, but only out of necessity. I don't eat the bread before it goes moldy. In general I might leave half a loaf out and half a loaf in the freezer.
I used to always put my bread in the freezer when I bought this stuff. In fact that's where it is sold in grocery stores. It's pretty much the healthiest bread you can find at a store, or so I've been told.
The oil is probably separating out because you have one of those natural or organic kinds of pb without additives. (the ones in the bulk bins at Central Market tend to do this too) Those of us who eat the cheap, generic, processed kind have emulsifiers in there to prevent that. I've never had a problem keeping it in the pantry, but if it does smell bad, that's your sign to throw it out.
Actually, I say fridge for cereal, chips, and bread(although I zap for about 7 secs to get it soft again).
