The hiking trailer reminded me of the El Camino del Rey video. Hiking sickness! <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZmDhRvvs5Xw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ZmDhRvvs5Xw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
There is a road in Tanzania, near the Ngorongoro crater, that is really bad. Not as bad as Bolivia, but there is a huge dropoff just inches from your tires... and the roads are wet and muddy so you glide around. Made me sick to my stomach. The roads were all generally ****, but this was a decade ago. Spoiler
I'm sorry but this is the most Dangerous Rhodes <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q0sFhGM83VE?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Q0sFhGM83VE?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
My first thought before I opened the thread. <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/WXLxszv9eCM?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/WXLxszv9eCM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
I've been to 5, you can't drive on it but it's a tourist spot where everybody hikes there.. It's not dangerous at all.
Not on the same scale, but I remember driving from one little ski resort airport to another in th CO area, and I had to go up mountains and cliffs in snow and ice and some of the roads did not have rails, I almost slid off the road a couple of times.
That was probably near Independence Pass, which is not too far from Aspen. That is a very scary road when the weather's bad. Gorgeous area though.
Ive been on some roads in mexico going torwards xilitla in the state of San Luis Potosi. I dont know how my dad made it through. It was like a rollercoaster ride. I was so scared and then we run into a wooden bridge. Never again.
Looks like the place i went to...I was too young to remember the name, but we drove, i'm guessing no more than 2 hrs away from Mexico city, so it's probably a different one. There's probably quite a few in Mexico. Couldnt find any official pics of the road, but this popped up in a search, seems about right, but I believe this is in Batopilas in Chihuahua.: Also found this bridge nearby:
Just sitting at my desk and looking at some of these pics is making me nervous. I'm deathly afraid of heights and would have to be drugged asleep to travel along those roads.
I got dragged along on a trip for work up a local mountain up a service road to the top that is essentially paved with gravel that is similar to #1, but a little wider (no rails, straight drop off). Seems fine except for when a car comes down and you are going up. This happened while we were on a corner and my co-worker pulled over to the edge to the point where I looked out my window and all I saw was a straight drop off the cliff and couldn't see the road beneath us. I was never afraid of heights before, but have since developed one slightly and swore up and down that they could never get me on that road again. Seeing those pictures made my heart start racing a little faster here at my desk.
What about the SEARS TOWER's ledge? http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/05/a-glass-bottom-skydeck-for-sears-tower.html BOO!
you have been to xilitla? me too. las pozas is amazing. i think i did the same road you are talking about - coming in from monterrey you can take a road through the mountains that bypasses san luis potosi, the city. pretty rugged out there. still nothing like i experienced in oaxaca though! thats las pozas. are you a chilango RV6? que onda mi chavo...
