6:55pm eye-witness viewing. F-14s have taken over the Loop.

this does not happen. Montrose is a main flight path.

There are no Heavies in site, only F-14s. Definitely three at least.

And to think I'm bbq-ing here.

What are F-14s, HP? Are they military?

By no "heavy," I'm assuming you mean no passenger planes, right?

F-14s are Tomcats...right?? The best fighter.

There is a hovering Helicoper over Memorial at Waugh, aimed at downtown...or just looking down. Doesn't look military.

Okay. Something seriously crazy is going down. Our theater's five blocks east of the GRB. RIGHT after I posted, I heard a very loud plane noise and went to look out my window, facing east of downtown. I saw four planes flying toward downtown, in formation, moving fast. I watched them for about twenty seconds and then they literally disappeared. They got fainter and fainter (though they were heading toward us, not away) and then disappeared. I thought they only flew into a cloud, but at the rate they were going, there's no way they wouldn't have come back out. This is crazy. Something is happening.

F-14s are naval interceptors, some of which have been converted to other missions (reconaissance, strike, etc). You may remember them from such appearances as Top Gun or JAG. As for being the best fighter, I woujld probably have to say the F-22.

On the Astros telecast, they just said that there was some kind of flyover for the pre-game... the roof is open. Hopefully that is what it is...

Moniker...I'm no expert, but I'm seeing big fighters, with the wing shapes of F-14s.

35-minutes before game time is a pretty expensive maneuver, but sounds like the best outcome to me.

The F-14 is the premier naval air superiority fighter. It is used primarily in defending the carrier group from attack.

The best fighter in the air force is probably the JSF, but I'm not sure if there are many of them yet.

BTW partner - You are probably seeing F-16s or F-15s.

Astros game...OK....I'm satisfied. One big show of force for the game start and to divert traffic from passing over Minute Maid....well done. Was there a warning in the paper that I missed about this????????????????

because fly overs usually do not take over the loop and do many circles beforehand.

Not only that, but the "heavies" have cancelled a large % of their flights due to low bookings so it may appear that they have been diverted when really they may not be flying much at all.

There is also a ceremony downtown for 9/11 and one in the Woodlands as well. The planes zoomed way out north and then quietly back by here on their way to Ellington. They've probably landed by now.

No reason to panic although it scared the living crap out of me when they made their first pass. Geez, that was damn loud.

I'm with you, Jeff. I was at a dog park near my house, and no one knew a thing about this divert all heavies and fly F-14s to make us feel safe, thing. I feel like a helpless citizen in a war zone...What is up with no media warning?? Did we miss something. I saw 3 doing wide circles, like a police helicopter looking for something to target, only to find out they were supposed to make me feel safe and celebrate???

    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

And to think I was monitoring all this and feeling safe..............

When they flew past the Heights the first time they were hauling. I didn't like that feeling I got when I heard them. They had slowed down for the second and third pass but I wasn't sure it was the same group or a different group. I had this bad feeling. The first thing I did was check here to see if anyone had posted about the fly by but I didn't want to be an alarmist so I went to check the news, when I checked back in here this thread was going strong, then saw the fly over when I switched over to the game. If there is news to be had, rockets or otherwise, you can bet you will find it here.

Now that's the truth. The next time I fill out an online survey where it asks how do you get your news, I'll check other and write in clutchcity.net.

Nomar...I'm no expert, but they looked much bigger than an F-15. imo, it definitely was not an F-15, probably F-16 now that you set me straight.

My friend noticed that they were flying in what he called "missing man" formation for part of the time, I'm guessing for the memorial. They sure were loud the first time they zoomed past our building.
