very true, but overall shaq was not very good he had the 3rd most turnovers behind lebron and mo, he blocked less shots than varejao, he was the 4th best rebounder. the guy wasn't the top 2 on any stat last year other than fg% and fta, which btw he was #2 on both, behind varejao in fg% and lebron in fta. this guy is old, he can give you some good minutes and leadership, but to say he was the 2nd best player for that team is down right idiotic.
I don't see the uproar over him ranking Lowry so low. Lowry's production was indeed not that high. The reason why Morey gave him that money is because he is capable of producing more. Think Aaron Brooks 2 years ago. What he produced vs his potential. For example, suppose Morey makes a trade for a star player that involved Brooks. Then he makes a separate deal that brings us a mediocre backup PG. Then Lowry would be thrust into a premier role, play 30+mpg, and be worth much more than the $5 mil we're paying him. How is he on long term projections? Production from year to year likely varies little for more FAs, who have established their value more or less. But using production to determine contract value based on their 1st year number seems very flawed. How is Joe Johnson likely to perform to his contract 2-3 years from now? How is Lowry likely to perform to his contract 2-3 years from now?
Joe Johnson should of been #1 in the bad signings, imho the guy was the worst signing of the summer, I feel for the hawks they had no other choice but to either pay or loose their #1 player. Still worst signing of the offseason.
tell him to eat 1.... lowrys value is his knowledge in this game. he will flourish to be an amazing backup for brooks and will give us the same spark...maybe even more this coming season.
He's talking about per dollar value here, what a team gets versus what it pays, so it seems mostly reasonable. Yeah, I was surprised to see Barnes signed for like 20% of what Lowry got. If they have comparable impact next season, Barnes is a relative bargain. Why is this a big deal?
After the first game he missed, it was fairly obvious there was no longer a sense of hope when the starters got behind as so often happend. You could no longer count on the bench to immediately get the game back in control. Without Lowry the bench had no identity, he was the main catalyst of everything with the way he pushed the ball up the floor. So, let's see...you have a team who is more bench-dependent than almost any other team in the league, and then you lose the player who is the main cog in that bench performance. Taking those two things into consideration, I don't feel like it's going out on a limb to say losing said guy was going to have a strong negative effect on the team's performance. We lose any other bench player we may see some drop in our bench production...lose Lowry and all bets are off. Our bench will be no better than any other NBA team. Luckily, next season our bench shouldn't be depended on quite as much...hopefully.
I think the rankings might have been a bit off but the overall gist of it was good. Lebron by far was the best signing at $15 million. You may argue whether or not he's #1 in the NBA but he's easily a $20-$25 million player (CBA aside). He himself will probably earn the Heat over $100 million in revenue. Lowry is a bit over-priced for his very limited role. Joe Johnson's max contract should have been mentioned. As Amare's should have been too. I also think Portland really overpaid for Wesley Mathews.
you guys need to look past being fans. his salary is too much for someone who will average 20 minutes a game. with martin and brooks who will average easily 35-40 minutes a game, that doesnt leave much for Lowry, then you add C. Lee and its even less. The only way I see this as a good signing is if Brooks is moved or if Lowry is a piece to be moved. I love having him here but if you talk money wise, it wasnt a a good move (stand alone ofcourse......hoping there is more pieces to the puzzle, Mr. Morey)
I think Wesley Matthews could be the best perimeter defender in the next few years guy is really underrated
This article is complete trash.. The writer of it seems to have a HUGE mancrush on "Steinlauf".. I mean seriously get off his tip.
Dwade is 29 this season. Jefferson is 32. Lowry is 25. LBJ is 26. I guarantee you Morey would also do this trade in a hearbeat
