You got it. He should be fine as a starter for 15 to 20 games. Plus it would give us some time to develop hill and patterson against lesser competition.

Why not on some games just choose which one you want him to play in.....either the first or 2nd one?

However, at some point you have to let him play and not treat him with kid gloves.

It is a contract year the team needs to find out if he can hold up, and that is going to take playing every game......

I say one game of every back to back until the last quarter of the season, by then we will need him to be back to elite status and we will be fighting for i higher seed in the playoffs.

I agree he has to start playing full time at some point, but just not for at least the first half of the season. When big z had this surgery he said he didn't feel fully recovered until after 1 season. In my professional internet opinion I view this like tommy john surgery. Further the team needs to protect Yao from himself and not push anything when it isn't needed.

I would never label one game as more "winnable" than another until that game is upon us. You just never know with trades and injuries. So I would say if there's going to be a rule, it should be to play Yao the first game of every back-to-back and rest him on the second.

I would think limiting the minutes would be enough. Just gotta stick by it.

No way, you can't constantly be having your focal piece on offense/defense continually going out of the line-up and expect the team to be able to perform at a high level.

For the past 5+ years we've been dealing with an inconsistent starting line-up, and we've seen where that has gotten us.

Feed Yao to the Wolves, he needs to man-up and play. See how his feet are holding up.

This is his final year of the contract, I'd rather let him go all out and see what were working with than only see 50% of Yao playing.

I'm cool with that idea but it was these same professionals who were "on point" last time

I was thinking the same thing. That's like a slap in the face to the opposing team. Also, every team are made up of pro's, no matter how poor their record might be. We've been know to lose to "lesser" teams, but can defeat the elite ones to.

I have an idea: Why not sit Yao for 82 games so he can be rested for the playoffs? Or, better yet: let him sit out the playoffs, too, so we can GUARANTEE he won't be injured?

It's what the Bulls did with MJ. It's what the Lakers did with Magic, Kareem, Kobe, and Shaq.

It's what championship teams always do: rest their best players for every game so they don't get injured.

This is a TOTALLY PROVEN method for success. I can't understand why the Rox don't consider it seriously.

Play in every game at least some minutes even if it is only 10 min. on the b2b game.

Well it looks like I was dead wrong about Miller, but Hill seems to be coming along decently.

Also, we should have sat Yao tonight and played him last night against the Spurs. It would have made a lot more sense imo, but what's done is done.

I read from one of those Chinese articles that the decision for Yao to skip Spurs game was due to Tony Parker and Ginobily would pick-and-rolled all night long when Yao was on the court. That would be too easy for the Spurs game plan.

hmmm...doesn't make sense that yao would take himself out in a game versus the spurs after he has already said he feels fine. parker and manu haven't traditionally lit up the rockets with that game like utah has.

Ok I'm completely wasted and am not reading through this thread, but I assume this has been pointed out.

Yao played the second game for marketing reasons. They would way rather he bring the crowd to a home game, than help out San Antonio's crowd. I assume this was pointed out already

I think we should phase him in. I believe now we should play him back to back but come after allstar break we should play him every other back to back, etc. Then maybe increase his min to about 30. That way, come playoffs he will be physically prepared to play all the games with whatever minutes are necessary and he didn't go through the punishment of the whole NBA season.
