clearly you don't live in austin, but then again i've heard most of the drag rats aren't actually homeless, just pieces of $h!t. it's not easy to break things down so simply though, you give someone something, you expect them to be grateful, when they aren't it's insulting. to me it's not a situational speech act, it shouldn't depend on your mood, or your luck, or your personal beliefs. if someone gives you something of theirs without anything in return than you would expect that person to be grateful.
There's a difference between expecting them to be grateful and being angry if they are not. What if the person has a social awareness disorder or some other mental disability, as a decent number of homeless people have?

That's very true, the drag is full of pieces of human scum who will act needy to get money and take it away from people who will use it on necessities. I always try to waste as much of their time as possible. Fortunately most people get wise to their tactics quickly
