So he is back in Shanghai already? Is this bad news that he isnt going to sign his contract anytime soon?
He said: The reporters of USA, Africa and Asia voted for him, but the reporters of Europe voted for Pau Gasol. He thought the #7 of Argentina (center) is better than him. If he was a reporter, he would vote for that guy. ESPN magazine took photos of him before he left USA. He blamed himself and hoped he didn't get those early fouls when they palyed with Germany. http://www.sportsweekly.com.cn/data/news/new_news/2002/9/11/12011.html
He also said, the whole Chinese team was required to watch the final game at RCA center. He escaped from there after the first quarter. He was almost asphyxial when he was there. He thought that he was voted for the best center of WBC just because those reporters wanted to comfort him. In another interview, he said he will stay at his dorm at his birthday. All the players in Chinese NT don't have "face" to go out. Other players can "make up" and go out, but he cannot. He is too tall. Whatever changes he makes, the people will recognize him at once anyway.
The more I hear about Ming the more I like him. Notice he's not proud to be picked best center in Worlds. He's not "dumping" on his teammates. He's talking about his own foul problems. That no make-up will work for him is classic. That height has it's disadvantages... A real sense of humor.
Amazing! He said if they put him on the Argentine team, he wouldn't have played as well as Oberto. And he thinks if he didn't get into those stupid fouls early in the German game, China would have done better in the tourny. He doesn't care how other people measure him. All he sees is where he can improve.
Another thing I want to mention. At the airport, many fans asked Ming to sign for them. When a fan handed a cigarette case and asked Ming to sign on it, Ming refused to do it and said "this is a cigarette case, how can I sign my name on it?" http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2002-09-11/1205314256.shtml
Nice sig. rock. Before it's Yao, Now, Wow. Now it's Ming, King, Ring. This is getting better and better. LOL.
I think the thing I love most about Ming so far is his honesty. He doesn't give the usual bull****, cliche answers to interview questions and he manages to remain interesting. It is very refreshing.
