What's the worse advice anyone's given you and you followed it?

(3 weeks later i realize im addicted to crack and had to quit cold turkey)

"Don't pull out! It's okay. I can't get pregnant."
a month after we've broken up and I'm ready to move on... "i'm pregnant"

 

Now I am really curious what this was.

I'll be honest. I'd hit the latter.

 

When I first moved to New Zealand from China when I was six years old, my father's friend's son who was from Taiwan told me that 'F**k You' was good morning in English. In China, when you see your teacher in the morning, you say good morning. So first day at school, dad dropped me off at 9am, I saw the teacher for the first time and said F**k You, dad got called back to the principal's office at 9.30.

That was some bad advice and I followed it. But I was a stupid kid back then.

It suffices to say I now avoid investment advice which everyone and their mother dispenses out i.e. back in 2005, the hot topic was real estate or house flipping. I look to developing markets which few people would touch for my high-yield returns using funds that I'm prepared to lose (like going to Vegas) and play conservatively inside the US.

Okay, maybe I should change "90% of people" to every person who bought a home between 2003 and 2008 on the coasts of the United States.

 

When I lived in NY my agent got a call for me to audition for a TV pilot. I was to bypass the casting portion and go straight to the producers who liked me because of musical work on Def Comedy Jam. My manager at the time was positioning me for a development deal (a deal in which you get a significant amount of money up front while an entity develops a show for you...ala "Johnny's Bananas"). He didn't think the show would get picked up and also thought I would compromise our development strategy by auditioning for a pilot. We passed.

We never got the development deal, and MAD TV lasted 14 seasons.

Whose to say I would have been cast, but I often wonder.
