I believe had this been in any Muslim-majority country, the outcry against such an act would be far more vocal (especially the popular Islamophobes who fancy themselves as experts on the religion).... http://www.jpost.com/Israel/Article.aspx?id=186154
Don't know if it's still true (haven't been around a church in years), but in the 70s dancing and movies were verboten for Southern Baptists
This was funny . These people are freaks, no doubt (yeah, I am stereotyping, but their beards look just like those of islamic freaks), but it sounds like this was more of an artistic happening, in which the person that was "sentenced" participated voluntarily, than an actual court proceeding. It's actually quite funny that vaids_13 thinks this is an actual legal proceeding.
By the way, here is the incredibly boring video of the incident. The actual "lashing" (which is like a slight pat on the back) starts at around 5:30 of the video (yeah, I actually watched that crap). It is clear that it was a staged, symbolic, "artistic" happening. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/43gksyW6L8Y?fs=1&hl=de_DE"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/43gksyW6L8Y?fs=1&hl=de_DE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
thanks for the video aroundtheworld.. It goes to show you how misleading a post or article can be.. LOL.. OP .. sorry but what a fail of a post.. That was a lashing?? that lashing couldn't kill a fly..
He's desperately clutching at lashes...I mean...straws...to show that members of other religions can be just as barbaric as Islamic extremists. While this is true in theory, it certainly doesn't look like this is a good example to prove that point.

lol, agreed. Rashmon outdid himself. I get the feeling whoever wrote the report in jpost had a sense of humor...or maybe it was unintentional, who knows. a) I never said that it was a legal preceding. I merely said that had the same thing happened in a Muslim country, chances are that it would have gotten much more media coverage, cynicism, and condemnation. b) Point taken, and I'll concede that the articles title itself was a bit of an embellishment. 'lashes' being a far cry from what the supposed 'singer' actually got. c) Try to be objective about it; remove the lash part altogether- had a Muslim cleric been reported as having stated his mission was to "fight against musical performances for both men and women," I think there's little doubt that according to many in your crowd, the Muslim community would be responsible for condemning the act. It's admittedly anecdotal, but my argument is that its also emblematic of a clear double-standard. When a solitary, obscure Muslim cleric (or "e-mom") comes out calling for death to Isreal, it is widely reported to the point of people assuming it to be the standard position of all 1.6 billion Muslims on earth- this occurs irrespective of the littany of Muslim organizations who condemn the individual prayer, disown the cleric, and perform outreach with Jewish organizations. On the other hand, a prominent Rabbi can give a sermon calling for death to Palestinians, a sermon that Netanyahu himself condemns, the story gets little to no press coverage. The same holds true this silly singer story, and I'm often perturbed at what I see as non-stories being reported like major crises facing the entire Muslim world as a result of an incident committed by a random individual....
Will each and every one of the so-called "moderate" Jews in the world (if there really are any) please contact me personally to denounce this horrible act? Otherwise, I will be forced to assume that all Jewish people in the world believe in committing violent acts for the "crime" of singing.

Jewish Fundamentalist Rabbis: It’s Okay To Exterminate Palestinians, and Non-Jews: http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/68656
They are dead wrong... Commandment VI: Thou shall not murder But I guess it's cool to bash jews in this thread. I hope some of the muslim posters realize that the HUGE majority of jews have your back when it comes to religious discrimination here in the states.
