I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get Melo, but another good piece via a three-team trade, similar to the McGrady deal. There's probably a talented wing that Morey is looking at the match salaries with to get involved. Who knows?
It's much easier to rate Favors as the #3 pick rather than as a player. If the Rockets had the #3 pick in the draft and someone offered you #14, Hill, and Budinger, would you make that trade? I'm guessing most fans would not. And historical draft day trades tend to agree with that. Obviously, it's not clear whether Favors is worth the #3 pick. But the consensus, even including Morey, had him more or less top 5. So we're talking high lottery pick vs mid-1st rounder + 2 role players with potential. Most teams, unless they think Favors was an absolute reach at #3, would go with the top 5 pick.
Dont ask me where i read it but pretty sure it was on the Clutchfans boards. Something about Rick Adelman not liking to coach dumb basketballers and that he was basically refering to Gerald Wallace and his time in SacTown. Therefore can see us trying to get him
I agree with the thadeus, and not just because mom told me to. But I understand the interest. He is a top 10 talent, by the numbers.
Not a big fan of Gerald, but if we're dealing with the Bobcats, I want Stephen Jackson. Start the flame, but the guy can play, and with the right motivation and coach, he's a great asset. His off-court antics aren't anything special, but we did have Ron Artest on our team, right?
I dont see why Melo would sign anywhere but Houston if he really wants to win. We can argue theres a bigger market here cause of Yao(China) all we want, but when it comes down to it, we are probably the only listed team who can give the Nuggets a legitimate package and still contend with what we have left + Melo. Theres alot of people saying the Nets would be good with their young talent...but let's be honest, they had the same talent last year(minus Favors) and only lost 12 games...plus they lost a solid player in Courtney Lee. New York has nothing to offer(cause we took it all  ), and all these other teams don't even have Carmelo's consent to sign long term(unless a new report came out that i missed), so theres no point in offering a ton for a one year rental. Maybe I'm just biased as a rockets fan, but I just don't see any reason to join another team...if he wants to win.
Denver is trying to gain more leverage over the Nets or Clippers, which is why these rumors are being floated. But you never know. Morey has got a nice package of assets to offer, and if Carmelo is willing to give Houston a chance.... Get er done!
