Favre was that good last year. McNabb struggles to stay healthy so I wouldn't mind putting Schaub ahead, and Palmer hasn't really performed as great since his knee injury(maybe the fault of the talent around him though). Romo is Schaub's equal(Their numbers are virtually identical, and Romo doesn't have Andre Johnson). Flacco looks to be on the verge, and he just got a great receiver in Anquan Boldin to line up across from Mason.
The problem is Schaub is going to have a down year numbers -wise. Arian Foster is going to get 10-15 touchdowns and 1400 yards rushing. You can't have spectacular numbers like he did last year if Foster makes past performance a season reality...
Tier 1 P. Manning Brady Brees Tier 2 Rodgers Favre Roethlisberger Schaub Rivers Romo Flacco Tier 3 E. Manning McNabb Palmer Ryan That's how I see the top 14. Favre is really just that high because of his spectacular year last year. I imagine he will play more like a Tier 3 QB this year.
All things being equal, skill wise, actually getting to the playoffs is apparently the tie breaker in these rankings. I'm not saying I agree that Schaub is behind those guys. I think he's currently in the top 5. But if you're asking why he's so low IN THESE RANKINGS, clearly getting to the playoffs was a factor.
Is there any other quarterback who is more overrated than Carson Palmer?? He had ONE GOOD YEAR before his injury, and he hasn't done SQUAT since then.... yet people still talk about him like he's an elite QB. An 83.6 QB rating HARDLY says top 10....not even top 15. Compare that to Schaub, who threw for 1400 MORE yards, 8 MORE TDs, and had a rating of 98.6. I understand that some of it (ok, a lot of it) is the system, but does anybody truly believe that Carson Palmer would be a better QB for the Texans than Schaub? I didn't think so.
Anywhere higher than 7 is just wrong I sat next to John Clayton on a plane once, I was like 15 and we argued about sports for the duration of the flight and I'm pretty sure I won. The guy is just stupid
Schaub looks stronger this season. He worked out with free weights as opposed to machines in the off-season He's fourth in most fantasy boards, right?
two-faced Texans fans. Tony Romo supposedly had no talent before last season because he hadn't won a playoff game.
left field? its a thread about quarterbacks and the merit of the rankings? How is this from left field?
because your comment is of left field. I didnt mention Romo, and I've also never said that he completely sucked because he never won a playoff series....i also never said he was better because he actually did win a playoff game. Given all of that, i cannot be two-faced. so basically, your post is out of left field and mostly just a bunch of spewing Spoiler
to be fair to Drew, not sure his remark was pointed directly at any poster specifically. and indeed, many (including Texans fans) *have* piled on to Romo for not being "able to win the big game" (as if that were an individual possibility). Not a Cowturds fan in the least, but I get what he was driving at.
exactly. I really don't know how one person can interpret the statement of "A player can be better than someone and not go to the playoffs." as some slight to Romo of all people. I mean, that must be one hyper sensitive cowgirl fan. For the records, I don't need Tony to win or lose playoff games to think he sucks.
Agreed. Of course, like any Houston star athlete, he's great "when healthy." I think he's top 10 for sure, and if the Texans make it anywhere this year maybe higher.
DonkeyMagic, I do apologize for grouping you, a sweet and special snowflake, into the general sentiment that has been carried on this board by Texans fans. I was merely pointing out that the main argument against Tony Romo (you might notice him on the list this thread is talking about) has always been that he is not a top ten quarterback because "lol he sucks he never won a playoff game." Your comment made me laugh considering the Texans' circumstance. Now it does not matter if you are a playoff quarterback when considering ranking? Of course a better quarterback can be left out of the playoffs. But when do you start wondering if the guy can lead his team to the playoffs? Is three years, Matt Schaub's tenure with the Texans, not long enough? Do we need five years? Does it matter if they make it and he can't lead the team to a playoff win? I guess i'm wondering how important the trait of leading a team is for a quarterback?
I wasn't saying there weren't still too many "elite" QBs on this list, just that there weren't 22 of them. If you think about it though, we do have a lot of good QBs right now.
you apologize for lumping me in then you proceed to lump me in again 3 years with a team coming off a 6-10 record and having ron dayne as your primary back is rough. Surely much more difficult than taking a team that was already fairly talented and had a record of 9-7. Regardless of how long it takes it certainly has not been the fault of Schaub. Last year, had there not been a multitude of errors that didnt involve the QB...maybe then they would have made it. QBs do have to lead but others do have to help along the way.
