The only way Courtney is starting is if Martin is traded with no Shooting Guard coming back or Martin gets hurt.
LOL, love the replies on the first thread. Yea I knew this wasn't a popular opinion, so I expected it. A lot of good points by some of you anyway.. Lets get one thing straight though. I do think Martin is a better play than Lee, but all because of his offense. Martin may may have been our leading scorer in the games he played for us but we needed that from him last year. Yao coming back changes things. Not saying Martin won't be great with Yao, but just saying the offense will run through Yao more and not as much will be needed from others. I still believe Lee with the other 4 starters represent our most complete line-up (especially taking into account defensively) Considering how injury prone Martin is, and Lee is not some scrub and he actually started the last two seasons...I don't think it's really as shocking of a suggestion as some of you make it out to be. But hey it's the off-season, i'm still enjoying talking about this stuff (line-ups and rotation of players) instead of Melo
Yea so your saying the gap between Brown/Bryant is the same as the gap between Lee/Martin? Yea I hear Kev Martin mentioned all the time with the likes of Kobe, Wade, and Lebron
I don't think it is a terrible thought, it is just that AB and Martin worked really well together....and to have them both on the floor at the start with Yao and Scola and Shane....oh man...that is a well balanced team to start. DD
Martin and Brooks are both offensive players and not good defenders but Lee and Battier starting together at the wings would be another problem, similar to Ariza/Battier. Yao is back now to erase defensive mistakes by the guards and Battier will guard the better SG/SF... Our backups are all mostly defensive players but one or more of Brooks, Martin, Scola or Yao will always be on the floor with the second unit. You will not see a Lowry-Lee-Budinger-Hayes-Miller lineup for more than a short period of time. Who would score?
Lets be fair. Courtney Lee has proven he can be a starter in this league. Not a good one mind you, but a starter. Kind of how Chuck Hayes has proven he can start at center in this league.
This is probably the craziest thing i've seen posted on ClutchFans. Completely disagree. Martin is an Allstar, C Lee isn't.
Not even close to that. the spurs had a pretty bad offensive bench, that's why they did it. Not to mention Manu is getting old and it helps to keep his mileage down at this point. Martin's injuries arent directly related to his minutes. Whether he got 5 or 35, an accident is an accident, he's got no injuries due to consistent stress, so it's not the same.
Crazy but not the craziest. Last year someone made a thread suggesting we trade for Tyson Chandler and move him to Shooting Guard.
I think the better idea is to start Lowry+Martin+Battier+Scola+Yao for a few reasons. First of all, Brooks can play Landry's old second-unit scoring role. That way Brooks' ballhogging tendencies won't put our better starting offensive unit's minutes on the court to waste. Secondly, Lee can guard strong offensive PG or wing (whether a starter playing long minutes or a strong bench guy like Ginobli for the old Spurs) while Lowry and Battier are out, 'cause let's face it, Brooks and C-Bud just don't cut it like Lowry and Battier. Remember how we frustrate Deron, Nash, and Billups by guarding them with a power forward with point guard speed (Lowry)? Now we can do that to them all game alternating between Lowry and Lee. It just works better that way. I just hope that Brooks' ego can take it for a whole season.
Actually I think the idea has merit. I don't agree with it, but Lee is a quality starter that is a very very good defender and a good 3pt shooter. Think of Doug Christie on the RA version of the Kings. The problem is that those Kings had Peja playing the 3 spot and Christie playing the 2. Perhaps if the Rockets had Melo at the 3 spot with all of his offense then Starting Lee at the 2 spot for his defense and occasional 3pt shot would be good. But with Battier's limited offensive contributions we need the extra offense that Kevin Martin will bring.
Yeah, I took issue with "bonafide starter." Lee probably wouldn't start on a single NBA team next season...not even the Nets.
Since when has Martin been degraded to the worst defensive player ever. Watching him play last season, I didn't think he was bad at all.
