Ok so on espn today they were discussing the possible upcoming team of the decade, and of course Miami was the majority, but after that it gets questionable to say the least. They have it listed like this: Miami Oklahoma City Lakers Chicago Then, under that is shows teams also receiving votes, and those are L.A. Clippers (1), New York (1), Orlando (1). WTF? Seriously?! I don't see how the Rockets are not even considered. We have one of the youngest teams in the league that actually HAVE talent (Bud, Hill, PatPat, Lee, Brooks, Martin). How are the Clippers, Knicks, and Orlando getting votes ahead of us??? ESPN can be real douches, but your thoughts? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?page=SummerForecast10-TeamOfDecade Lock if posted.
The Rockets are built around an injury-prone big man who does not have many years (if any) of dominant play left in him. They will be lucky to win a single championship with what they have now (or what they can acquire with the talent on hand without rebuilding). Orlando has been a legitimate championship caliber team the last few years and should continue to be for several more. The Clippers have a lot of young talent (including a potentially dominant young big man) and some people continue to forget that they're the Clippers. New York could be another potential team of the decade if Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony are really serious about going there.
how are WE a candidate for team of the decade? take off your homer glasses. our franchise player has 2-3 years left at most if he recovers appropriately. and he might never regain his old self. and if you want to be technical, we don't have a legit superstar who is young and improving. heat and thunder are the most likely candidates b/c they have studs who are hitting their primes at the right time. *******, i hate homerism.
Rofl. Lakers are not even close to being team of the next decade. THEY HAVE NO YOUNG TALENT AT ALL! Kobe going to retire in a few years Pau going to retire in a few years Ron going to retire in a couple of years Bynum going to retire when he knee busts again. Fisher going to retire in 2 years. My money is on OKC. Superstar in the making in Durant and All-star in Westbrook with CAPSPACE! They are only going to get better.
Pau and Kobe each have about five good years left in them. Artest is replaceable, in fact, Trevor Ariza and Luke Walton combined to play the SF position in the Lakers championship run last two seasons ago. Fisher is not going to be such a big loss. The Lakers will probably be able to replace him with a legitimate starting NBA point guard, and then they could actually be much more dangerous. They wouldn't depend on so many "clutch" plays from their PG to make up for him sucking for the first 45 minutes of every game. Bynum will probably be traded for another superstar player. The Lakers always get lucky.
Some rockets fans need to understand that there are other teams better than us and in better positions than we are.
Ok I get all the "realists" out there.. But I mean come on, do you honestly think as long as Daryl Morey is the GM, this team is not gonna compete for the championship? Look what he already has done. Don't forget about those Knicks picks either, I'm just saying don't sleep on the Rockets.
As long as Morey is GM, I'm confident the Rockets will be competitive. But that doesn't make the Rockets a candidate for "team of the decade". You need young superstar talent and/or established contender credentials for that.
It's going to be between Oklahoma and Miami. The lakers are old, I don't understand how they on that list.
Morey has been great at finding good players at reasonable prices, but he hasn't brought in a superstar player yet and that's what the Rockets need to win a championship.
Funny how things change....remember when Portland was the next big thing? Teams are really just one big injury or one disgruntled player away from falling apart.
Who cares? Notice that those teams have either established superstars or potential superstars. The Rockets don't have a Derrick Rose or Kevin Durant or even a Blake Griffin.
I dont think the Thunder can get much better than they are right now, simply because they're in Oklahoma City. They can't land quality FA's, so they have to rely on the draft. They are brilliant in the draft, but they've picked high every year. The more they win, the lower their pick is, which handicaps them in a way. The only way I can see them contending for the trophy consistently is if Durant can become a top 20ish all-time player, and as much as I love Durant and his game, that's a pretty lofty thing to ask for. I admire the team for being able to build from scratch so well, but unfortunately, their location puts them at a huge disadvantage.
It makes sense if Rockets isn't on the list. We haven't really done much in the last decade except finally past the first round and take the Lakers to game 7 in one season.
