you know, now that I think about it. Melo wanted Ty Lawson to start because he think Billups shoots too much. I dont mean to break reality but AB is a shoot first PG as well. Also if he isnt fond of playing with Billups why would he come to the same team getting Billups?
One of J Feigan's blog replies talk abiut Smith's salary fitting cuz it was a tiny bit over 6 mil. Maybe he is wrong but the post suggests that he checked with someone who would know.
My attempt to get Melo to Houston. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=26m8v4t Atlanta Hawks Trade: Mike Bibby, Jamaal Crawford, and Marvin Williams Receive: Aaron Brooks, Shane Battier, J.R. Smith Denver Nuggets Trade: Carmelo Anthony, J.R. Smith Receive: Jamaal Crawford, Marvin Williams, Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries and a pick Houston Rockets Trade: Shane Battier, Aaron Brooks, Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries, pick (either one of 2011 or 2012 NY pick) Receive: Carmelo Anthony, Mike Bibby Why for Atlanta: They get a better, younger point, a vet defensive SF who compliments Joe Johnson well, and a replacement 6th man for Crawford in Smith. Why for Denver: Marvin Williams becomes their starting 3, get rid of J.R. for a better locker room guy who can also score, young potential in Hill, and an expiring in Jeffries. Why for Houston: Get Melo. Duh. Oh and Bibby played for Adelman back in sac town and has a reasonable contract. Him and Lowry will split time at the one.
Yet another Melo trade idea: Houston gets: Carmelo Anthony Minnesota gets: Jared Jeffries, 2011 HOU 2nd rounder, cash Denver gets: Chase Budinger, Jordan Hill, Chuck Hayes, Mike Harris, Alexander Johnson, Sebastian Telfair, 2012 HOU 1st rounder, $4.18M trade exception Why Houston does this: Carmelo. Why Minnesota does this: The Wolves get Houston's 2011 second rounder (the higher of their own or the Clippers') and some cash (likely also from Houston) for their troubles in taking on Jeffries while still unloading Telfair's expiring contract. Why Denver does this: Denver gets Budinger, Hill and the 2012 first rounder (the Rockets can even make it the higher of theirs or the Knicks' pick) to jump-start its rebuilding process. Hayes is a solid post defender who would be popular in Denver. Telfair is PG depth on an expiring contract, and the Nuggets get a free look at Harris and Johnson before deciding whether to waive their non-guaranteed contracts. Most importantly, this trade saves Denver over $18M next season. If the deal is done in two steps, with Denver acquiring all of the Rockets' assets in one trade and then trading Jeffries to Minnesota for Telfair, the Nuggets can also get a $4.18M trade exception to use (or not) in the next year, likely next summer when some other payroll relief comes.
3 way trade? It would be sweet to get both Iggy and Melo in one trade. Philly could really build around a Brooks-Turner back court. A Lowry-Iggy backcourt is filthy...in a good way. Those guys go get it on defense. Denver gets Kevin Martin Jordan Hill Jefferies 1 of the Knicks picks and our 2011 1st round pick Denver will still compete plus they are able to rebuild at the same time. Chuncy, Lawson Afflalo, JR Smith Kevin Martin, Al Harrington Kenyon Martin, Jordan Hill NeNe, Birdman This lineup should keep them competing for the playoffs at the same time rebuild through the draft. They are getting a young piece in Hill, but they may ask for both of the Knicks picks. It shouldn't be a deal breaker by no means. Philly gets Aaron Brooks Shane Battier Balkman Which ever 1st round pick Denver does not take. Philly lineup Aaron Brooks, Evan Turner, Willie Green Elton Brand Spencer Hawes They would still have a decent bench plus some young pieces to move at the trade deadline. Another reason Philly does this is because they would be moving Andre's contract. Rockets get Carmelo Anthony Andre Iguodala Rockets lineup Kyle lowry (whoever Morey gets with our T/E) Andre Iguodala, Courtney Lee, Jermaine Taylor Carmelo Anthony, Chase Budinger, Luis Scola, Patrick Patterson Yao Ming, Brad Miller Now we do not have to explain why we do this from the Rockets standpoint http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine#
This one I like to call the capkiller: Rockets get: Brand, Iguodala Sixers get: Battier, Hill, Hayes, Johnson, Harris, Taylor, Patterson, Beasley Wolves get: Jeffries While we give up Patterson, Hill, Taylor, filler and expirings we keep all the picks. I really hate losing Patterson but he was needed to make the deal work. Sixers make room for Turner and jettison Brand (who is overpaid but I think still has plenty of game left and can kill other bench PFs and can backup the C if needed) for the cost of Iguodala. Wolves unload the controversial Beasley for the expiring Jeffries. Brooks / Lowry / Ish Martin / Lee Iguodala / Budinger Scola / Brand Yao / Miller
You could leave Minnie out of this but I'm thinking Kahn and Beasley aren't going to have a long relationship. http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/07/22/wolves-gm-michael-beasley-smoked-too-much-mar1juana-in-miami/
I don't think the salaries work Battier, Jeffries, Hill, Patterson, Hayes and Taylor make a combined $21.4 million, while Iggy and Brand make a combined $28.3 million (we wouldn't have any fillers left to send Philly). I want no part of Brand, they have nothing to give that would change my opinion on that.
It works - That's why I had to include Patterson (who I wanted to keep but had to include for salary purposes and most likely won't play with Brand as a backup), Taylor and others. I couldn't even keep Harris or Johnson because it was so close. And since we are getting back longer, more expensive players it would be a cap killer - for years. Brand is overpaid but still has game. But taking on his contract for 3 more years would be up to Les, not me. Is it worth the price of Iguodala? I'm not sure but I know you'd have the Sixers interested. In fact you should be able to get an additional pick for our cooperation. And I don't think there is a better 10 man rotation out there. Would it be enough to take a top team out in 7?
I can't think of a GM that would want Beasley at this point. I'm not even sure the Sixers would trade Jeffries for Beasley even though it would save them some money. Guys like Beasley are generally the guys you want to keep out of your locker room if you have young players. Maybe in a couple years if Beasley does clean up his act and play to his potiential he will be wanted but right now I think even the infamous Kahn is having regrets of having him don a Timberwolves uniform.
Beasley is on a rookie contract to where they dont have to guarantee him. Thats what im trying to say, They wont save more money.
I was making the trade to save the Sixers money and get Beasley away from the young wolves which is what a smart GM would do - but then this is Kahn were talking about.
I'm back!! Denver gets Battier Martin Bud Hill Johnson Harris Jeffries Hou and NY 2012 picks Houston gets Carmelo Nene Smith Line-up Brooks/Lowry/Ish Lee/Smith/JT Carmelo/Smith Scola/Nene/Patterson/Miller/Hayes Yao/Miller/Hayes/Nene/Patterson Not only can we get Melo, but we can also help Denver get rid of Smith and Nene's contract. Maybe just Carmelo and Nene?
Three team trade: Hou|Sac|Den Houston Receives: Carmelo Anthony, Chris Andersen, Hassan Whiteside Rockets get Carmelo to add to their already loaded starting lineup, while also getting Whiteside to replenish some of that youth that got lost in the trade. Sacramento Receives: Chauncey Billups Sacramento get their Ideal veteran presence that will allow Evans to move to his more natural position at the 2. Denver Receives: Jeffries/Battier(expirings), Chase Budinger, Jordan Hill, Johnson/Harris(non-guaranteed), 2011 NY pick, 2012 NY pick, 2012 HOU pick, 13.1 mill T.E.(Sac trade). Denver receives expirings, young players and draft picks, as well as a massive trade exception. .... 2010/11 Houston Rockets Roster 6'0 Brooks | 6'1 Lowry| 6'1 Smith 6'7 Martin| 6'5 Lee | 6'4 Taylor 6'8 Anthony | 6'9 P.Pat 6'9 Scola | 6'6 Hayes | 6'10 Andersen 7'6 Yao | 7'0 Miller | 7'0 Whiteside --RB
i think that the Rockets and the Clippers are the two teams that can give the most for Melo, while still fielding a competitive team. Still just because the Rockets and Clippers can give the most, they shouldn't be the two teams that are the most to give.
What I'm trying to say is that its a slippery slope and a team can easily start bidding against themselves and give more than they have to...
Not Morey, look how he handled the TMac situation........I think he will walk if the asking price is too high. DD
