Yao Ming is required to take part in international competition for China. He served in the World championships this year, next he will be in the Asian Games, Followed by the NBA season. Yao Ming is a young guy, you know, but how will playing so many games affect his health?

"I feel like I’ve been playing for eight months now," said Pacers forward Jermaine O’Neal, who limped away from the 10-day tournament with a sore lower back and a sprained ankle to go with a bruised ego from Team USA’s disappointing sixth-place finish. "I’m worn out."

Worn out. And this is from a player whose team exited early from the playoffs!

Yao Ming has a lot of talent. Its would be a shame for him to end up like another Sabonis. Do you think Yao Ming will have a long career?
    :(

nope... i believe he will last longer than sabonis.... yao work harder than sabonis.... sabonis seems to work out lesser than yao but then sabonis turning 40's in 2 or 3 yrs....yao still young, he will have a long carreer...

If Sabonis had come into the league when he was younger, he would had a more productive career in the NBA. Which is why I think Ming will have higher chance of becoming a very good center, than those of Sabonis and some of the other foreign centers.

Sabonis didn't get injured and tired because of a lot of commitments. Sabonis chose to stay overseas. Sabonis was actually eligible to come over and play for the Blazers during their Finals runs but chose to stay overseas. And he got injured while he was overseas.

I agree that Sabas isn't a good comparison, but there's still the worry about Yao's health. How many guys that big have held up, and will playing basically all year long shorten his career? I'm worried about that? :( Maybe we can clone Yao and send the clone back to China.:p

Sabonis was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the fourth round (77th pick overall)
of the 1985 NBA Draft; the pick was later disallowed by NBA officials, who found
Sabonis to be too young to be eligible for the draft.

He was then selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round (24th pick
overall) of the 1986 NBA Draft. The political climate between the USSR and
USA didn't allow him to play in the NBA at that time.

Nine years later (at the age of 30) he came into the league in 1995-96.
