Kenny Thomases and Less NBA sooopastars I think kenny Thomas, Popeye Jones, CHuckie Browns, etc the 'third' tier players would have played with heart and passion that would have left the world mystified. Rocket River
This team was lacking in a low post presence that could develope a tempo and get some high percentage buckets. Players like Wallace, Davis and even Oneal are not solid post up players with solid post up moves. From what I saw of the WC's it was down the floor and either shoot the three or passoff for a wild penetration heave. No pace or post presence from the US at all. On a side note it seems it's almost below most of the upper echelon players to play in these games; I mean c'mon the top Europeans represent their country and most of them have to come to America to truly "get paid" Rant Over
i'll go with the title of the topic and say what i believe is what they needed: US TEAN NEEDED MORE... WINS! thats it...they had the talent, they had the players who are usually kind of "special teams" (ben wallace) and they had the coach...the thing is...they all messed it up on 3 different occasions. All they needed were wins...cuz they had what they needed to win. Sure Shaq would have been a little better, but the US had the most talented team, they just never played with the fire in their eyes.
i agree a low post presense would have made us win, ben wallce is a low post presense, but only on defense. The sad thing about the nba is that besides tim duncan, and shaq there are no really good low post players.
Kevin Garnett, Antonio McDyess, Alonzo Mourning, Chris Webber, and Rasheed Wallace are all low-post threats. I am kind of surprised that Elton Brand did not have more of an effect down low, though.
