Unless the Nets gut their 12 win team, I don't see the Nyets as a viable option for Melo.

    His post was money.

In a perfect world, we have the potential to win 50 to 55 games with the current roster. But injuries are inevitable.

Adding Melo gives us insurance. Remember that DM is trying to construct the best 8 man roster possible. This is exactly why he is actively going after the big names.

    Melo
    Granger
    Iggy
    Wallace

One of these players will be in a Rockets uniform before the deadline.

Listening to SportsRadio 610 interview to that guy from the Denver Post, I'm actually convinced Carmelo will be heading to the Knicks.

I'm actually really sad on how his speech was actually very convincing.

    Lala: So where we going?

    Carmelo: I'm thinking of Houston.

Lala: Ewww. Honey, I want to be in a place where I can continue my career. That place is ghetto.

Carmelo: M'kay honey. You know I love you.

So uh... yeah. I'm no longer posting in any "rumor Melo" threads from now on until I see a "Carmelo traded to Rockets" thread. At the moment, I'm just happy with the team we have, melo or no melo. Oh well.

I disagree. I would see this very much as combining Paul Pierce and Ray Allen when Allen first went to Boston. Pierce commands the ball a lot more (like Anthony), while Allen moves without the ball to create shots (like Martin). I think Anthony and Martin would compliment each other quite well. This team would score over 100 a game. There is room for more than one 20 pt scorer on that team. And don't even say Yao. We don't have any idea if he can be a dominant player again, and because of his limited minutes, probably will not be for some time. And it is hard to get the ball into Yao when he is fronted. With Anthony and Martin, Yao could find easier baskets just taking wide open 15 footers and then concentrating on the defensive end. Much like Garnett did with Boston.

Already posted in the Dish but Larry Coon was on 610 today. Also was Chris Dempsy of the Denver Post.

    Larry Coon:
Rich and Rob here. Y! Sports report came out, Rockets were out in front. Trade scenarios were knocked around here in Houston. How is it going?

LC: Doing good. A lot of rumors and innuendo going around.

What do you think? Carmelo has 2 years left, 2nd year is player option. He is seeking a new deal. So ideally, he wants to sign new deal and then get traded?

LC: Yeah he has had an extension on the table for some time now though Denver in no rush to get things done. They dont want the same thing to happen to them(talking about CLE and TOR)

What would the Rockets have to part with, from a salary and talent perspective?

LC: Yeah, 2 perspectives. Have to do a deal that makes sense for both teams. Every team will be calling. Nuggets under no obligation to cater to Carmelo. Other perspective is, which team will put best deal together? If it's NY, maybe Gallinari and Randolph, though they're without draft picks. Maybe they can't put together the best deal. Maybe the Clippers if he's willing to go there. You're looking at a couple of things; sending out about 13 million $$$. So Martin or Scola or Battier or Jeffries will have to be included. Denver will ask for the moon. Maybe Aaron Brooks for post Chauncey Billups. Maybe Hill or Lee.

They have some assets. You mentioned NUggets under no obligation to cater to Carmelo.

LC: There are some options. Denver could send him to a team he doesnt want to go to and that would become their problem.

[Missed question and most of the answer but regarded the Ariza trade and TE]
(If I heard correctly part of the answer) They can't make that TE with Denver.

    LC: Correct

The Clippers are the main competition?

LC: You can argue they can put together the best deal but if Carmelo doesn't want to go there, it doesn't really make sense.

Larry, how good would this team be?

LC: Great news that Yao was cleared. Hopefully Martin can keep it together. If they stay healthy, they can be a competitive team.

    Thanks for joining us.

    LC: Anytime

    Chris Dempsy:

Rich and Rob here, how are you?

    CD: Fantastic, you?

Doing good. Liking the idea of Carmelo in Rockets red. Any chance it happens?

CD: Yeah a lot of possibilities. Rockets one of those. HIs preference is probably still NY. Interesting situation because he has some control(not total) so him getting to Rockets would have to involve a trade. Has to match for both Carmelo and the Rockets. Houston a top team on his list.

Seems to me Carmelo has upper hand. Can play another season and opt out and Nuggets get nothing. Of course risk is there too with salary cap, extension, etc. Seems that would give him leverage.

CD: From that standpoint, yeah. The one thing he might not control is team he is traded to. He can make his wishes known. The honus is on the Nuggets to show Carmelo Denver is the best place to be. La La heavy into entertainment industry. Some place other than Denver best for her. They have until the trade deadline.

Chris Dempsy joining us. What kind of player will he be if he isnt traded?

CD: Good question. Not a question I quite know the answer to but he likes playing basketball. Certainly has had baggage in the past. The one thing is there is no anamosity(sp?) between coach or any player in the organization. What has happened is Nuggets offered extension and he hasnt signed it. Got good friends in Amare in NY, LeBron and Wade in Miami. He is interested in doing the same. Looks at the Nuggets and doesnt think Nuggets will be relevant in a year or two. Wont contend for a title with young guys. Carmelo is not mad at Nuggets or anything like that. Nuggets would have to show him that Denver is the place. It's not your typical player wants to leave town. It's friends and family.

Chris, before we cut you loose, NUggets owner now the owner of the Rams. Talk of Denver about that? Reaction to that?

CD: A big shrug. Generally dont care. What Stan has done is he has given control of Nuggets and Avalance to his son Josh, which he is now owner of both today.

So all they need is a baseball team.

CD: Yeah, only teams they dont own in town are the Broncos and Rockies.

Prognosis on Karl? Expected to be back?

CD: Yeah, interesting to see how much he does in TC. Might ease into it. His progress medically, he is headed in the right direction. Expected to be on the bench this season w/o restrictinos.

    Thanks for joining us.

Melo can go anywhere he wants. He can tell any team he wont sign an extension with them. The Nuggets want something out of him. He can also control how much a team gives up by just telling the Nuggets he wont sign if the team gives up too much. He has a ton of leverage.

It all depends on where Melo's head is at. Melo's wife was quoted saying her Melo will make the decision that is best for his basketball career in regards to winning a championship. All of a sudden Houston is on the top of list this thing can go either way.

Only if the team he is leveraging with can sign him outright (like the Knicks). Anthony can't tell the Nuggets FO that he'll only accept a trade to the Rockets for scraps, because they'll just tell him no.

Think of every trade for a major star out there (that was still young). Shaq to the Lakers was like this, McGrady to Houston was like this. Why didn't those two stars say they wouldn't go to said team if major pieces came back? Because the team that was trading them would've told them to F off.

Remember when Kobe demanded a trade out of LA? Chicago was one of the places in talks with the Lakers and Kobe said he wouldn't okay the deal if guys like Deng and Noah were coming back. Remember what happened? LA didn't trade Kobe. Of course... half a season later and they do the rape deal for Gasol, but the point is that Kobe didn't hold that team hostage for the perfect deal.

Some people think that stars shouldn't be allowed to demand trades like Melo is doing. But w/e, it happens so whatever. But something that NEVER happens is a player completely holding a team hostage and demanding to be traded off of a team for free. The only situation that it can happen is in the scenario where they could sign with that team anyway.

So we're going to have to give Denver market value for Melo. A few teams will make their offers and we'll have to beat them.

    without melo...

there is a small part of me who doesnt want melo and wants to win with the team we have right now. i think it would be great to win with a TEAM. we are one of the only teams in the league who wins without a superstar and i enjoy it.

i am not a fan of guys like carmelo, kobe, and durant. remember how we were with tracy...... i dont like it when a team on offense gives it to one guy and just expects him to beat his guy off the dribble or shoot over him. to me, its sorta boring.

im not saying that i would rather win 50 games with the team we have right now compared to winning 58 games with melo, but if i had the choice to winning a championship with this team or a team with melo i would pick this current team. i hope this makes a little sense, if not, then im sorry you read it haha.

i just like how this team plays together.

    Bottom line:

If you have a chance to get a legit NBA superstar, you do it.

Team chemistry is nice and all, but other than Detroit in 2004 I can't remember one team that won it all without a star.

Winning 42 games with Aaron Brooks as your stud is a lot more fun than winning a championship; I'm with you.

We may not end up needing someone of such a caliber and shot taker like Carmelo. Maybe AI or Granger, but we need another star caliber rotation player. If you snag Melo, you do it.

The thing is if you want to win a title you pretty much have to have a guy or two of melo's caliber. The team we're looking at now could go deep in the playoffs but we won't be a title contender until we cash in some of these assets we have stockpiled. imo
