I'm shocked! Just shocked! I can't believe this kind of stuff goes on in college sports. ;)

Ten years possible for Webber and his family. I guess there really was a good reason why Webber was not even called for Team USA.

Kudos to Motay for fessin' up and telling the truth. That took some guts. Makes me wonder what Webber was trying to protect.

It didn't say anything about MoT fessing up, but it did say Martin gave Mo 105k.

    USA TODAY EXCLUSIVE: WEBBER SPEAKS

    Kings star Webber indicted

    By Roscoe Nance, USA TODAY

Sacramento Kings All-Star forward Chris Webber was indicted Monday in Detroit on charges that he lied to a grand jury about his dealings with University of Michigan booster Ed Martin. Webber, who led Michigan to the Final Four twice in the 1990s, was charged with obstruction of justice and making a false declaration before a grand jury, FBI spokeswoman Dawn Clenney said.

Webber's father, Mayce Webber, and his aunt, Charlene Johnson, were indicted on the same charges. Each faces up to 10 years in prison and a $500,000 fine if convicted.

"I didn't lie," Webber told USA TODAY late Monday night. "The truth always comes out. What this case is about is a 70-year-old man dressed in hip-hop clothes who befriended kids and said he loved kids, and I believed him."

Webber, expected to turn himself in before NBA training camps begin Oct. 1, said Martin wanted to represent him and approached him about being his agent. "I didn't know he saw my potential before I saw it," Webber said. "Threats were made. Those threats have come to reality. I believe this is extortion. After the trial and I'm vindicated, this case will be bigger than me lying to the grand jury, which I didn't do."

Webber, 29, testified before the grand jury in August 2000, and the indictment comes about a month after it was first reported he would be indicted.

The indictment contends that Webber, his father and aunt lied to the grand jury and conspired to conceal the cash, checks, clothing, jewelry and other benefits Martin gave them from the time Webber was in high school in 1988 until he turned pro in 1993.

Martin, who pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to launder money, said he paid Webber $280,000 throughout the relationship. Webber, a nine-year NBA veteran, signed a seven-year, $122.7 million deal with the Kings in 2001.

10 years in prison? I don't think he will step 1 foot in prison because all these famous players get away with so much. Look at AI, or OJ Simpson. They can bend the laws a lot more than us common folk can.imho.

There is also that small, intsy-bitsy chance that Webber told the truth.

    Indicted folks, not convicted.

Webber made a huge mistake if he lied to the grand jury about money.
If Bill Clinton taught us anything, it's that it's only OK to lie to a grand jury about sex.

"This case is about a man who befriended kids like myself, preying on our naivete, our innocence, claiming that he loved us and that he wanted to support us, but later wanting to cash in on that love and support that we thought was free," Webber said while reading a statement at the Kings' practice complex. He did not answer questions from reporters.

There`s no free lunch Mr Webber
