Seriously? He's on YOUR team now...should he have hit the layup? Possibly. Did Kobe hold his jersey on his break to the basket? Yes. Did Gasol grab the net which is technically goal tending? Yes. Did he catch and thus release the ball from behind the backboard? Yes. Did Orlando as a team still have overtime to win the game? Yes.

Get over it. Dude's on the team you cheer for. Cheer for him - don't bring up the past.

    Haha nice.

    I've always liked Courtney Lee's play...but really don't haven't seen him play in-depth.

    League Pass baby!

Whoa. Lee guards fast point guards that Harris can't handle? That's pretty fast.

Lee's description above sounds like a shorter faster version of Battier. Not a bad thing to have on the team.

Hey Rocket fans. I am also a WKU alum and was there while my boy CLee was a Hilltopper. I have been watching him play since he was a senior in HS. So I feel I have pretty decent knowledge of his game. I signed up the day of the trade but have not been able to make a thread so I havent posted yet. Figured this thread was as good as any since a fellow Hilltopper already posted in it.

First let me say that I am so glad that he is out of Jersey and in a state that has people that understand basketball and talent. And on a team that doesnt have idiotic and abnoxious fans. One more year of hearing those NJ people talk about how TWill might be the 2nd coming of Lebron and I was going to punch an old lady in the face (not really but you get the point).

I know a lot has been talked on here about Courtney's defense. Some posters have said how they were afraid that the Rockets were losing defense by trading Ariza. Just go ask the Magic fans who they think is a better defender. Ariza played for the Magic at one point too. Lee may not have the length that Ariza has. But Courtney is faster then Ariza will ever be. Lee's size and strength is also deceiving. He guarded Lebron in every game he has ever played against him. During the ECF his rookie year he went up to SVG and told him he wanted the responsibility of guarding Lebron. Lee's job that series was to slow him down as much as possible while everyone else shut the rest of the Cavs team down. Well you all know how that series ended. Lee is great and reading the passing lanes and picking his spots when trying to intercept a ball. He doesnt gamble near as much as Ariza. He is one of the best on the ball defenders at the guard position in the NBA. What Morey said about CLee being able to guard the 1-3 positions is very true. So dont be surprised to see Lee and Martin on the court together a lot this season with Lee guarding the greater threat at the 2 or 3 spot.

I see alot of people making a big deal of that missed shot in the finals. People who have played or coached basketball will tell you that is not an easy shot. As a former player I will say that hitting a layup, with your head under the backboard, while your momentum is carrying you out of bounds, with a 7 footer in your face, and only .6 of a second to throw it up is far from an easy shot.

Now with that cleared out of the way I will let you in on his offensive game. When he was at WKU Lee was not known as a defender but as a scorer. And for people who say that WKU is just a small school and he never played against anyone. Western was Gonzaga before anyone knew the name Gonzaga. Just a breif run down:

41 conference championships, third-most in NCAA history
40 seasons with 20+ wins, sixth-most in NCAA history
    36 All-Americans
    34 national post-season appearances
13 NIT berths (most of which when NIT was "the" tourney)
    21 NCAA Tournament berths
14th in NCAA history in all-time wins (1,627)
8th in NCAA history in all-time winning percentage (.673)
7 "Sweet 16" appearances in NCAA tournament
    4 final fours

Lee was excellent at creating his own shot and running the pick and roll. He is a master of the mid-range pull up which is a lost art in my opinion. He got the rep so far in the NBA as being a set shooter. Because in orlando the role of the SG in that offense was to set in the corner or on the wing and be ready for the kick out. In NJ he was asked to play a completely different style and was asked to go back to creating for himself. Last year on the Nets it seemed like a lot of players where just out for themselves. Lee and Lopez had to take matters into their own hands just to give them their first win of the season. Lee had 27 pts, 4 reb, and 3 steals in just 33 min...including 7 points in a min to ice the game. Keep in mind too that NJ played most of the season without a coach. They had a sit in GM for almost the entire season. And according to what I heard, they never had team film sessions and practices were a joke. However Lee was the first one in and the last one out of the gym every day. He even came in one days off to work on his game.

You guys will love having him on your team. He is the embodiment of hard work and discipline. I hope he stays with the Rockets for a long time. I can root for you all easily. And thanks for taking time to read this book I wrote ;) .

Rojogrande (Toppertimes2 here) - thanks for signing up too! I knew it wouldn't take the Toppers long to find a board. I was gonna let the boards/fans of the Nets slide but wow - those "fans" are idiots! Thanks for adding on some of what I missed!

Sounds like a Morey player to me. Hard working and commited with tallents that other GMs undervalue.
