hope he gets traded before the season starts. don't like having to wait for a trade like last season with Tmac.

demand a trade before preseason dammit!

Yes, and a lot can change between now and the trade deadline. Teams that haven't even been mentioned could get into the mix. It seems we are legitimate players in the Carmelo sweepstakes, but at this early stage it could easily be misdirection too.

Let's bottom line it. The Rockets must have a strong start if they hope to attract Carmelo, because Denver is probably not going to trade him before the season begins.

Replace PatPat with Hayes in this scenario and take away the picks. Or only give them one pick, the 2012 Knicks pick combined with the lower of the 2011 pick. This would leave us with around $14 mill of expirings (JR Smith and what is left of either Jeffries/Battier) along with Brooks and the 2011 first rounder to send to New Orleans for Paul.

IF MELO IS REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT COMING TO HOUSTON THEN IT IS OBVIOUS THAT HIM AND PAUL ARE TRYING TO BUILD THEIR OWN BIG 3 RIGHT HERE IN H-TOWN TO COMPETE AGAINST MIAMI. THIS IS A BIG TIME POWER PLAY BY MELO AND PAUL IF THIS TRADE ACTUALLY GOES DOWN. AND YOU CAN BANK ON THE FACT THAT PAUL IS NEXT OUT THE DOOR.

I think this is exactly right. One of the big points about getting Carmelo is that it will open the possibility of getting not only CP3, but other big time players that would not have considered coming to Houston otherwise. DM has shown he can find serviceable players in the draft for cheap. This move would put us in the elite section of the NBA.

6 months isn't that long if you think about it.

I'm not sure why the Nuggets would want to wait until the trade deadline to deal Melo. Why roll with an unhappy player of Melo's caliber for half a season hoping to get a better deal?

I think Melo has a lot to lose if this thing drags out. Heck, as unlikely as it may be, the Nuggets could even threaten to pull the extension off the table if things get sour.

His continued reluctance to sign the extension is very telling and I really believe it is in the interests of both parties to do something about this ASAP.

The Nuggets should wait as long as possible to get the best deal possible, and maybe they are trying to convince him to stay.

Probably behind the rumors of JR Idiot Smith being shopped.

What good is Carmelo Anthony if we have to gut the team to get him?

If Denver doesn't want Battier, Jeffries, Taylor, 2Pat, our NY 2011 option, and the NY 2012, then let them keep Carmelo.

    PG -- Brooks, Lowry
    SG -- Martin, Lee
    SF -- Anthony, Budinger
    PF -- Scola, Hill
    C -- Yao, Miller

That's a team with which we can go to war.

Denver would be smart to deal with the inevitable early in season or before it and avoid all the distractions of a "where will Melo go" question.

I'm glad someone understands what Morey's trying to do here.

He may not get it to the CP3 extent but he will have players wanting to come here and get in the mix of the playoff contenders for less money.

Get Melo and the rest SHOULD fall into place.

Knicks fans would commit collective suicide if that happened.

Worked for the T-Wolves and Garnett, and by "worked" i mean turned an offer of Al Jefferson and Rajon Rondo into Al Jefferson and Sebastian Telfair.

3 team trade. Philly, Rockets, Nuggets

    Philly get
    R Balkman
    Birdman
    Kevin Martin

    Nuggets get
    Battier
    Budinger
    Jordan Hill
    Aaron Brooks
    Jefferies
    Kapono
    Knicks 1st round pick

    Rockets get
    Melo
    Iguodala
    Ty Lawson

    Rockets lineup
    Ty Lawson, Kyle Lowry
    Iguodala, Lee
    Melo, Taylor
    Scola, Patterson
    Yao, Miller

Denver gets there young pieces and there pick so that they can begin to rebuild. I know a lot of people do not want to move Brooks but we have to put a trade together that makes since for both sides.

Philly does the trade because they have been trying to move Iguodala's contact. By getting Martin they don't lose scoring but save a year on the deal.
They also replace Dalembert's shot blocking and defense with Birdman.

Houston does this to get that superstar they have been after. By adding Iguodala we get more defense and size then we would have in Martin. Hoping that Lawson and Lowry can run the team. There will be plenty of scoring on the court so we don't need any out of the PG position.

A package of future picks, TEs, and anyone not named Martin, Scola, Yao, Budinger, would be my preference.

Even more so after teams saw what happened to the Cavs and Toronto this off-season.

Melo also has all the leverage as he can veto any trade by refusing any extension with interested teams.

I think the longer Denver holds out fighting with the Nuggets FO over where he'll go or do... The greater the chance where Denver are left with "absolutely nothing" as the song goes.
