I think people who like to go "all in" like to have people convinced they like a gamble. Really, these people just don't have patience. If you want instant pleasure, root for the Heats. No, Carmelo is not our last hope, he is just the flavor of the month. If we trade for him it does not mean a Championship. If we don't trade for him, well we will just have to wait for the next trade rumor accompanied by a thread entitled "is .... our last hope for a championship run?"
I'm sure Morey will pull a sleeper deal no one expects. I mean come on, no one thought Ariza was on the trading block!
we dont need him for a run this year, but he would definitely help and solidify our place as a contender for years to come. therefore your poll choices suck.
Martin-26 Battier-31 Miller-34. Not really all that old in my opinion. Battier and Miller will probably be gone before too long, but so what, we are grooming younger players to take their place. We also have several first round draft picks over the next couple of years. The best teams are usually a mix of younger players and older players, and that's what we have. I don't know why you would think Chase has a low ceiling, I thought he did well last year. In case you haven't noticed, the Rockets have already begun the rebuilding process, and they are staying competitive at the same time. They know that Yao may not be around much longer, but that's OK, we have the young talent and draft picks to keep us competitive. I wish everyone would stop worrying so much about us acquiring multiple superstars, and just enjoy the very good team we will have this year. Most NBA teams would love to have our collection of players.
Hell yes !!! It is like the GARM has turned into Smeagel ....oh look at that shiny object in the stream, my precious !!! Gives it to us........ DD
maybe if it hadn't been ENCOURAGED once the season ended. I say we start a rockets4melo page, atleast their has been a rumor that he actually included the rockets in his list of teams he wants to play for. unlike some other player who never included us in his list and is only 2/3rds the player melo is.
I like the group we have now.. Of course it would be great to add Melo but then we live by Melo and die by him. I like having a group of underdogs who aren't at all concerned about themselves individually and who want to win as a team. Of course it would be great to have him but I think there might be something special about this roster we have now. I like to root for guys like Budinger, Lowry, C. Lee, Battier etc. Guys who do whats best for a team and who don't necessarily look for individual glory. We can do it without him! Definitely don't wanna gut our whole roster but if we could get him for maybe K-Mart or AB, some picks and Jeffries expiring I'd do it.
There really is no "last hope" within the context of the NBA. There are so many factors that affect a team's championship and I would venture to propose that LUCK is a very big one. The current Rockets, if it remains relatively healthy throughout this coming season and into the playoffs, is not a pushover by any means. The presence of Yao and Martin alone will give other teams something serious to worry about. So, personally, with this team this year, anything can happen, and winning a championship would not be too surprising even with the Heat looming as a juggernaut. Melo or no Melo the Rockets are good to go.
Keeping Melo away from the team would be more advantageous for us, than adding him. Melo is the kind of NBA player I hate. I don't want him on the Rockets. I hate not being able to cheer for everyone on the team. It doesn't matter how cheaply he could be gotten.
If our roster stays as is we will still compete. Our starters may not be superstars, but they are definitely not push-overs, and our bench is deeper and better than most. Our opponents will be playing against players that could be starting on most teams for 48 minutes every game. We will quietly win our division in 2010/11.
Oh, quit acting like you're above it all. The Rockets do need a second superstar, and Carmelo would put the Rockets back in the mix for the next five years.
There's more than one way to skin a cat. You have to build a championship team one way or another. You don't have to be bound to any given player as your 'only hope'. Anthony would address major needs. There are other guys who could address those same needs to various levels of effectiveness. For example, if hypothetically speaking we got Iguodala for free for some reason, I could imagine Yao-Scola-Iggy-Martin-Brooks + our bench as a championship team. If we got a good deal on Anthony we could be a championship team...if we gave up too much to get him it wouldn't solve anything. Either way, Anthony is a nice possibility but certainly not the last hope.
We have a great team, deep, hard working, and fun to watch. But to beat a team like Miami or L.A. you will need more than one star. This isn't 1994 and we don't have Hakeem Olajuwon. We have Yao Ming which is pretty darn good if he's healthy, but the supporting cast is not enough to take on the firepower of the elite teams. The question is this - if you want a ring, then this team will have to change. You look at the landscape of players who can be game changers for us, and they are not really available. The one guy who seems most accessible and would best fit with our team is Anthony. You put Yao, Anthony, and Brooks together on the court and it's going to give you a very powerful force on the court. Those 3 guys will be perfectly spaced apart which will make double teaming them very difficult. Yao will have room to work, Anthony will have room to do his thing, and Brooks will find the paint wide open for him to drive. You have a couple of solid 3 point shooters to go along with that and you're on to a very prolific starting 5 - they kind that we haven't seen since Hakeem, Drexler, and Barkeley played together with a healthy Brent Price. I say, go for it Morey. You don't win often by standing pat in the NBA. Just ask Cleveland.
I don't think anyone can beat the heat, but with no carmelo we may make 2nd round which really sucks.
I sincerely hope not - we'd be screwed if that were true and we didn't land him. I don't know how he would do here under Adelman's system. Karl gave him a lot of leeway to create his own shot a la Tracy McGrady. I don't think Adelman would value his scoring as much if he were a ball stopper like T-Mac. I'm not saying he's going to hold and shoot all the time, but I seem to remember him doing that a lot in Denver.
