Melo is the biggest name among rumored stars, however, I still believe he's not a good fit on this team. i'd rather have Iggy + Josh Smith

    Battier + Hill + 2012 1st pick for Igudala + Philly's 2012 2nd pick

    and before trade deadline:
Scola + Jefferies for Josh Smith

    Yao Ming, Miller
    J. Smith, Patterson, Hayes
    Igudala, Budinger
    K. Martin, Lee, Taylor
    Brooks, Lowry, Smith

    that's a more balanced team considering offense/defense/chemstry
we can still offer K-Mart + a pick + TE (TE will be sent to a 3rd team for a player Denver likes) for Melo. line-up will be:

    Yao Ming, Miller
    J. Smith, Patterson, Hayes
    Anthony, Budinger
    Igudala, Lee, Taylor
    Brooks, Lowry

but i really feel that Melo won't be a good chemsty fit to this team

What I don't understand is why is the Nets in the running for him? They aren't even gonna be in Brooklyn for at least another 3 years and from a basketball perspective can't net Melo without gutting their entire roster.

them not having any trade exceptions will ultimately doom them. Outside of Harris and Lopez, I find nothing on their roster worth taking. I leave Favors out because he hasn't proven anything yet and has bust written all over him. IMO, the Nets should have taken Cousins who will be the better player overrall.

Also to take notice, any team that will trade for Melo will have to take on a bad contract like Anderson's or Nene's.

Any offer that the Nets include has to start with Harris and Favors just to make the salaries match. Why would Denver take back Harris when they already have Billups on books for another season for a team option and Lawson on a cheap rookie contract? Harris is making a **** load of money this season and next, unlike another point guard like Brooks, whose contract is relatively cheap.

Also the Nets have to convince Carmelo that their team will be better with his addition. Would giving up Harris, Favors, and even possibly Lopez make them better than the Nuggets? They won 11 games last season with Harris and Lopez and just lost Courtney Lee and with the loss of Harris and possibly Lopez, will they really improve significanly with just Melo? Melo is great and a top 5 player, but I just dont see them winning 40 more games with just him because that supporting cast will suck, even more the Nuggets, who Melo is supposedly saying is not that great anymore.

Also wouldn't it be ironic as hell if Morey nets us Melo using both New Yorks and New Jersey's assets, New Yorks' being their draft picks and expiring contract of Jeffries and New Jersey's by using Courtney Lee? He would single handley screw both teams that are in the running for Melo.

Another thing to mention is that Melo wants to play with a dominant big man, which was made known by his recent outing by both the Jazz last season and the Lakers the season before that. Why would he play for New Jersey if they trade Lopez, even though he is not better than even Nene. Assuming the reports out of Yao and Morey's camp are true, Yao will be back in full form by the start of training camp at the earliest. Melo knows you need a dominant big man to go deep in the playoffs, just look at Boston, LA or Orlando.

In the end, we can appease both Denver because we have the assets and Melo because we don't have to gut our team to aquire him and still compete for a title THIS year. If we go deep in the playoffs or even to the Finals with him, he would be a fool not to accept our extension offer, especially with the new CBA looming and the potentional lockout

Just curious, any opinions on a timeline for this (if we were to get him)

Before the season starts, the deadline, or next summer??

I would think deadline, historically big deals like this don't tend to happen at this dead time after the draft and before training camp. The deadline tends to force teams to ante up something they might not have wanted to, teams trading away talent might have more leverage.

If we get him, then it will be before the season because if we get him at the deadline, then he won't have the chemistry with our guys

That would be nice, however, I hope we change our jersey. It's getting old already and I hate those double stripes...

Anyone think it's even a remote possibility that we send out Yao and somebody else in return for Melo and Nene?

No way they are sending Yao out. According to Mannix, Melo has interest in playing with Yao so that would defeat the purpose of him coming here.

    Realistically speaking,
I think it will take something along the lines of K-mart, Jeffries, and Jordan Hill + picks.

I'm not getting my hopes up.

To get Anthony, we'd probably have to trade away most of the team's better young prospects and players, outside of Yao.

Who, no one would probably take at this point but whatever. If Morey can pull off a trade for Melo and leave use with more then three of the following players, Brooks, Scola, Martin Lowry, Hill, Paterson, Budinger, Lee and Miller, I would have to call him a witch king or some sort of Time Lord.
