Because he implied that Israel would intentionally time their operation to inflict the maximum number of civilian casualties. Like I said though, it is just a guess.

Everyone claims Israel is so badass, then let them go it alone. Save us a crapload of money we dont have.

 

I was actually referring to your comment that Israel is somehow superior to the rest of the world in their care and diligence for civilians when attacking someone.

 

Very unlikely that Israel attacks Iran. If they did, it would be with explicit or tacit U.S. approval. Israel attacking Iran without U.S. approval would rupture the relationship beyond repair. The anger generated against Israel in this country would be off the charts (and they know that).

It ticks me off when columnists (of any background or stripe) keep writing about this. All it does is rile people up for no reason whatsoever.

Check out this video. The British colonel states that he doesn't "think there has ever been a time in the history of warfare when any army has made more efforts to reduce civilian casualties and the deaths of innocent people...", referring specifically to IDF operations in Gaza.

To talk about Israel and Iran and come to the conclusion that Isreal is going to do something to maximize Iranian civilian casualties (as trustme did) is asinine. One of these countries sponsors one or more terrorist organizations to rain down rockets on a civilian population and the other is Israel.

I don't think that's a fair assessment based on the evidence you're using. I'm sure a Syrian colonel would say the same thing about Iran for example. As another example, the Goldstone report is not very supportive of the view.

Just to state my view, I think Hezbollah and Israel dedicate an equal percenteage of their resources to avoid harming civilians given the technology available to each of them. IMO It's ludicrous to think that, if the two sides swapped technology+allies, the Lebanese government would be slaughtering Israelis left and right without caring about civilians, and that Israel would only respond in an ethical manner.

Several members of the current or past Israeli government have been affiliated with "terrorist" groups of the past... groups which murdered politicians, soldiers and civilians to achieve a goal. But they don't do that anymore because the situation is different - they are standing behind several powerful allies and an irrationally large nuclear arsenal.

As for what a government would do, I wouldn't put anything past any government in a time of war. Israel may not be any more likely than other governments to do something that horriffic, but IMO they're not any less likely to do so either.

I wouldn't put it past Israel. People don't understand that many in Israel truly believe that if Iran acquires a nuke, it will be used against Israel. This is a people who have promised themselves to never face another Holocaust again and that mentality will drive them to be the aggressor versus the victim.

An interesting article about this is in the Atlantic Monthly.

I'd say that Israel would attack Iran if it knew a nuclear weapons facility was producing a bomb.
