He called Rockets "my Rockets". He said what he wants to improve are: rebound, defence and the passing ability when he is double teamed.

    Oh, I can translate this.

Ming is tired of being bound to his Chinese past by being forced to wear the red rubberband bracelet that caused him to be ignored in Indiana, and he's ready to shed all that for his new life in Houston and never be ignored again.

Are they still in America? If not, Yao will have to fly here to sign his contract, then fly back to China to prepare and play in the Asian Games, the fly back here. Talk about physical and mental exhaustion.

    Your translation is plain wrong.

    Here is another interview. http://sports.tom.com/Archive/1019/2053/2002/9/9-6681.html

Much more diplomatic saying he will never forget about embarressment in Indiana. He is honored to play for his country, etc.

IMHO, this really shows how much of a TEAM player Yao is. He achieved great individual statistics but none of that seemed to have mattered to him.

I think this type of attitude is what's gonna make this team a contender in the very near future.

This is a very good article. I hope that a good translator can translate it into smooth English and I highly recommend this website or Houston's paper to publish it. It will give a lot of fans good perspective about Yao Ming, his point of view of leadership, loss of a game, teamwork and etc.

I know there are two or three good translators on the net. Please help out.

:) Okay, Let me just translated the essentials:

This article is about Yao Ming's frustration over China's performance during the WC:

He said: "I'm not afraid of challenges, but I didn't even get a chance to face them! How can a gun show off its firepower without bullets?" He is refering to his teammate's inability to give him the ball. He shouted to his teammates during the Russia game"Can you pass the frigging ball to me if I give you two hours??"

After the Germany game, he said"Other team's defence is focusing on not letting me get the ball, but my own teammates don't even pass to me. In fact, while I get defence's attention, I can also find the opportunity to pass the ball out." He then says "Now I don't want to go on the internet anymore, I don't want to see what other people say about me."

Hey, so he actually check the web sites for his stories..hmmmm...maybe a good chance that he reads the clutch board huh? Or even one the the posters is him,haha...

He also feel a bit victimized by the referees, "If they want to teach me a lesson, can they not wait until I'm in the NBA? Don't do this to me while I am representing my national team playing on the world stage!"

After the NZ game, he stormed into the locker room by himself, screamed and shouted and later cried. when the reporter called him initially, he asked to be left alone for a while, " I know it's not my fault, but my problem is that I just can't get over things like these(defeats)."

When the reporter called again several hours later, he says " I've been hit hard ever since the first game at the WC. You want me to be the leader on the court? No way, like I said before when I was at Shanghai Sharks, the leader on the court should be PG or SF. As a center, my job is defence, rebound and scoring. To be the team's spiritual leader? To stand up when the team needs me to? OK, but I didn't even get a chance to standup! A gun without bullets, how can it show its firepower??"

Yao got 100% FG in the NZ game, but in his eyes "My perfomance is worthless, the team lost, that's a hard fact. It's pointless looking at my scoring. There are two types of players, one is scoring, one is his usefulness on the court. The reason that everyone says that GongXiaoBin played a really good game against Algeria even though he didn't get many points is that he was useful when it mattered. Basketball replies on teamwork, no matter how well I play, I am just a component or a tool in the team."

When asked about the Argentina kid, Chinobilli? Who is supposed to be a favorite to be ROY candidate in the NBA next year, Yao couldn't care less "What's there to argue about? Those things never belonged to me, it's all other peole forced these things on me."

okay, I hope somebody find this interesting, it sure took me a while to translate!:)

Yeah, thanks for the translation junshao - it was very interesting to read that and get more insight into Yao's character. It is so cool to read quotes from a guy who hasn't swallowed his agent's bible on what to say to the press is simply regurgitating from it.

Honestly, sports interviews are such a bore these days. Yao Ming interviews are a breath of fresh air.

I've said before and I'll say it again. This guy is a stud. Not only does he have the physical talent, he has the heart to win. I just hope he gets fed up enough and develops that killer instinct ala Dream, MJ, Bird and Magic.
