If we trade AB, wouldn't our PG depth go to crap? Who backs up Lowry? Ish Smith? Do you really feel comfortable with Smith starting for an extended amount of games if Lowry goes down? Not that I dont want Melo but that worries me a bit still.
Brooks + Battier + Jeffries + NY's 1st round pick for Melo + Ty Lawson Any package involving Brooks to Denver should net us Ty Lawson. There's not enough room for Billups, Brooks and Lawson. - Make Lowry the starter since he's basically earning starting PG money now and have Lawson play backup. - A combination of Yao + Melo + Martin would be very similar to the 2008 Celtics big 3 except our guys would be younger and still in the prime. This would also relieve pressure off of Yao. - PG shooting might be suspect but when you have two bonafide 20 pt scoring wing players (Martin + Melo) with the option to dump the ball into another 20 pt scoring big man threat (Yao) we need more of a facilitator role at the pg position anyways. - This is an attractive deal as any for Denver. Brooks, Battier, and Jeffries are all expiring contracts. They solidify their future PG position with Brooks since Billups won't last forever. They get a solid veteran in Battier maybe he can show JR Smith a thing or two about being a "consummate professional" . Jeffries is a big expiring so it gives the Nugs a chance to rebuild/sign players next year. The NY pick is very intriguing/interesting. I think it's a fair trade and both teams win especially since Denver will be losing Melo one way or another they would be hard-pressed to get any better offers.
I strongly disagree. They'll be in rebuilding mode if they unload Carmelo. They'll be looking for young cheap talent + draft picks + expiring contracts. We can offer that with a package of Batter + Jeffries (both expiring contracts) and some combination of Jordan Hill or Patrick Patterson + a 1st round pick or two. AB and Martin would stay.
I dont think it would be AB traded. It would Kevin Martin and some draft picks plus expiring contracts. Maybe a young guy or two like Patterson and Budinger. if we are gonna do that trade it will be for something good like that. Martin, Budinger, Patterson, draft picks, expiring contract.
that's why i chuckled at the granger and melo comparison. indiana has enough talent to make the playoffs in the east and they suck.
Obviously it has previously been speculated by the media but... Trading for C.Lee makes letting go of Martin more realistic. Trading Martin will be a big loss. Morey is obviously in love with the guy but if it means Melo than you simply have to do the deal. Courtney Lee brings intangibles that fit nicely with another superstar at the 3. Good defense. Doesn't need the ball to be effective. Etc.. Morey has flexibility at every position. Everyone and anyone could be traded, with the exception of that big center, and their backup could step right into the starting slot. I think if you wait till the deadline you may be able to get a deal done with retaining Martin but thats a huge risk. If possible you want to get this team solidified before training camp. Rockets, likely fueled by Yao's age, want THIS year to be special. Getting the roster set early and letting the team gel early significantly improves our chances at being championship relevant. (If we had somehow obtained Martin before the season started I bet this team would have snuck into the playoffs) An offer of Martin+J.Hill+2012 Knicks pick+T.E. would likely be the best a team could hope for when losing a superstar. (Still unsure if the T.E. can be packaged with others players but if not Jared Jefferies). *Nuggets would remain a relevant team with the addition of Martin. *J.Hill and pick are young assets to jump start rebuilding process. * Financial relief through the T.E. or J.Jeff. This is all of course under the assumption that Carjello is willing to sign an extension with the Rockets. Carmelo would be awesome, would be the T-Mac trade all over again.(Hopefully with better results) Even if it doesn't happen,or any trade for a superstar for that matter, fans should feel confident in this team. We are insanely deep. A roster of selfless, intelligent guys who want nothing more to win. No more distractions. I guess my point being, faith in the Rockets should not be contingent on obtaining a Danny Granger or Carmelo. This team is ready to compete now. Hew. Long Post. Go Rockets!
The Rockets would be relevant again only for one season with Melo. Then after he leaves, we'll fall back to where we were. No thanks. I'll pass. Not worth it.
Martin can't be involved. That would be a deadly 2/3 combo. I see AB on the way out in this scenario. We payed Lowry starter minutes so that makes the most sense right now. I can't envision us paying AB 8-10M a yr and have 14-16M tied up to our starting and backup point guards. Let's do this! Get his birds rights and offer him the max next summer!
Hmmm if Denvers going to rebuild, would they also send Mr. Big Shot along with Melo? Or would they still try to compete? Don't know Billups salary or years left on his contract thought, am just wondering
If Denver decides to dump Melo - you get the best deal before the Feb trade deadline where basically you offer up expiring contracts, cash, picks, and maybe our 9 or 10th guys off the bench. Denver will take that over a mid-range overpriced superstar. If Melo wants to re-up and is willing to play in Houston for 3 or 4 years, than you can give up more. But still, it wouldn't be a guy in the top 6 or 7 rotation wise. Just is no point - Denver has very little power especially as the trade deadline approaches. Carmelo Anthony may be willing to re-up to ensure he gets max money from the team he wants to go to, but really, it's hard to see him going anywhere but New York in that scenario.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5468878 Ric Bucher was on the Doug Gottlieb show saying: 1) Melo does indeed want out 2) Melo likes NY, however hasn't forced a trade only to NY 3) Houston is in a good position to move their assets to send to Denver, but doesn't know where Houston is on Melo's list. Houston can be more competitive. 4) This could get ugly if Denver doesn't trade him before the season opener.
I think if he does indeed get traded, he might go to the Nets. The Nets can offer an enticing package for Melo. Something along the lines of Harris + Favors + Williams for Melo + Lawson
What if the Rockets and Nuggets agree in a deal but Melo isn't sure. Morey can talk to Anthony and try to convince him why the Rockets are a perfect fit for him, right? Or would Denver trade him where they want to
Guys, we ARE NOT getting Carmelo Anthony. It's obvious he is going where Chris Paul is, and rumor is he would love to play in New York. Why would Denver want Brooks anyway? They have Billups and Ty Lawson already better off going after iggy or Granger
Damn, I just read that! <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IUH3JQjcweM?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IUH3JQjcweM?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Finally someone at ESPN came to their senses and put us on the map!
I think this is a pretty reasonable offer that will entice Stan Kroenke Jeffries + Hill + Patterson + Battier + Brooks + 2012 NY 1st round pick for Carmelo + Lawson + Anderson Rockets lineup Lowry/Lawson Martin/Lee Carmelo/Budinger Scola/Anderson/Hayes Yao/Miller/Hayes Nuggets lineup Billups/Brooks Afflalo/Smith Battier/Harrington Martin/Patterson/Williams Nene/Hill/Butch
