Yeah, but that sucks. Depends what you're looking for. If want a high OBP leadoff guy who gets steals, then it doesn't really suck. I think the team this year has proven that batting average players are essential even if they aren't power guys. Blum, Viz, and Merced have been absolutely essential for this team to even get competitive this season.
But if we want a high OBP guy, should we get one who can draw walks more consistently than Pierre? Seems like the ability to draw walks is less subject to awful dips than batting average, like the dropoff Pierre is having this season. Pierre's one of those guys that isn't helping his team unless he's hitting about .320.

But keep in mind we're also looking for a speedy centerfielder as well to let Berkman return to left or right field. If you can find a cheap, high OBP, fast centerfielder that might be available, the Astros should jump all over it.
Pierre > Hidalgo At least Peiire gives us something we don't really have. The only asset (other than his fat ass) Hidalgo brings is his strong arm in RF.
The interesting thing about this rumor is that a month or so back Hampton purchased a new home in the Houston area, and his family moved back. Coincidence?
