Anyone catch the end of the Chiefs vs Browns game?!?! Heres the setup: Browns down 37-36...march downfield and kick what appears to be the game clinching field goal and put them up 39-37 with less than 30 seconds left, and the Chiefs with NO timeouts. But the HOLDER gets a 15 yard taunting penalty, so the Browns must kick off from the 15. Giving the Chiefs at least a shot at the game. All they need is a field goal. Ok, less than 10 seconds left, looks like Trent Green is getting sacked at the 50 yard line. As trent goes down he flicks the ball behind his back just blindly in the air with defensive linemen ALL OVER him, and time is now expired. An offensive lineman picks the ball out of the air (again with no time left) and rumbles down the field. At this very moment Number 57 of the Browns takes his helmet off and chunks it down the field as the play is going ON!!!!! Number 76 is pushed out of bounds at about the 30 yard line, and game is over right???? Nope, game cant end on a penalty, since number 57 took his helmut off on the field of play- 15 yard penalty and one play left. Chiefs kick field go from the 15 yard line with no time left. Two people are out of jobs come Monday...one place holder and one Seems to be linebacker. OMG.
I saw it... I happened to switch over from the Titans for a second and saw it!!!! I'm still shocked! Maybe the "Chefs" will be the Bears of 2002 and win multiple games based on last second plays??? Of course, this was just plain dumb luck. i'd hate to be that guy this week in Cleveland... Not gonna be fun at practice or being out and around town.
Heres a question for you NFL rules guru's. How was it not a penalty that the offensive lineman caught the ball. I know they arent allowed to catch a foward pass, are they allowed to catch a lateral? Or is it assumed that Trent fumbled into the air and luck played the rest of the part?
I still think that Freeman's catch on MNF two years ago to end the game is the most unbelievable play in the NFL EVER!!!
One tipped pass off of a body part (even as crazy as a foot) happens every few years. How many games end like that on one play that had so many wierd things happen?
Not to end a game in overtime. Turley's play last year did basically the same thing, just the opposite way.
how is that a "play." That sounds like more than one play. I'll take the Titan's "Immaculate Deception" over that, then you also have the "Immaculate Reception." I doubt they will be naming the "play" you describe. Those two plays won playoff games in more Unbelievable fashion. Your's is not much different than the Philedelphia play on the last snap, instead of kneeling they handed off for a fumble, which resulted in a recovery by the defense for a 50yrd?? fumble return.
Yeah, against the Giants back in 1978, right....? The Miracle at the Meadowlands or some **** like that. Joe Piscarcik was the QB who fumbled, if I remember the NFL Films TV show properly.
Most unbelievable play ever? Maybe not even of the day, thanks to Mike "I make Jeff Fisher and Brian Billick look humble" Martz. Down 16-13, with 1 minute or so in the 3rd quarter, 4th and 2 from the Denver 10. Field goal time? Nope -- roll Kurt Warner out (!) and try to hit the fullback on a flag pattern. Warner's pressured, the pass is incomplete, Broncos take over.
what the hell was Martz thinking? I dropped my glass of water when I saw that Warner and Co. stayed on the field instead of taking a gimme FG... mike shouldn't get so cocky. Funny how they missed the next FG though...
The unbelievable part is the guy throwing his helmut downfield as the play is going on. Every year there is some form of the immaculate reception. EVERY Year. As for the immaculate deception. How many times have you seen some version of that in your lifetime? A few at least. Yes magnified due to the implications, but you will see some version of that 10 times in your lifetime before you find a player...during a live play...chunk his helmut downfield, off of a all but last second sack, flip of the ball in the air, grabbed by an offensive lineman, as time had run out, and the game winning field goal being kicked after time had expired.
On another side note, I am absolutely sick of NFL overtime. The Saints have outplayed the Bucs all day, but a lucky final drive (Saints blow a wide open interception, late hit on Brad Johnson), the Bucs get to overtime, win the coin toss, and it looks like it's over. I don't care if it goes for 5 overtimes like in college football. With the offenses like they are today, it's almost a given that the team that won the coin toss wins the game. In the best league in the world, there has to be a better alternative to deciding a tie game than flipping a coin to determine the winner. Note: hopefully me posting this now will help jinx the Bucs... I don't think it will though. Edit: It actually did. Saints get the ball again...
guys, i think he was just living in the moment... of course its not the "most unbelievable player in the NFL ever"... cut him some slack.
The crazy thing about that Rams play is that there were TWO recievers open to get the first down - the fullback was uncovered in the flat for a three or four yard gain, and a first down, and the tight end had two steps on the guy covering him in the end zone. And Warner missed it.
Actually the team that won the coin flip only won 8 of the 17 NFL overtime games last year. It is still a stupid system and I think the college system is much better but it is not a given that the team that wins the coin toss wins the game.
WOOOOHOOOOO There's another interesting ending for you... Tupa, the punter, is almost sacked in the end zone with 3 minutes left in OT, so he just throws it up for grabs and straight to a Saints defender (James Allen), and the game ends. He didn't have much of a choice, but it was definitely funny to see Tupa throwing it about 2 feet with his left hand.
I wouldn't call it the Most unbelievable play ever, Just weird. YOu gotta expect weird stuff on Week 1 anyways, The NFL is great.
I don't think Rudd will be waived after watching the replay from another angle and hearing Rudd's statement. What Rudd did was stupid because he did not hear the whistle. Rudd said he thought he had sacked Green. He did not see the ball. Just a freak play.
