I don't remember Jerry West resigning for a position. For some reason I thought he was still working somewhere.

Bring him on as the guy to convince stars to come to Houston. Morey is the best GM in the league in terms of strategy and valuation, but he lacks basketball gravitas a la Pat Riley. He is a nerd, one of the reasons I like him. But when it comes to max players with multiple offers you have to tap into their gut feeling and talk to them ball-player to ball-player not with an ipad. Morey would set it up and West would be the closer. He would point to the logo on the t-shirt of the star free agent and tell him, "That's me. If you want a legacy like mine, you have to win and here's where you'll do it." Ball game.

I can just see it now... Rockets trade Martin, Brooks and Hill for Luke Walton, 2 late first rounders and Steve Blake. Shortly after, the logo quits.

Wouldn't happen. Morey's still the GM. The logo is just the guy they bring in at the end of free agent negotiations to close the deal. No way I'd let him make any real decisions.

Gay was right for them. They were giving up on Gasol and wanted to tank. Gay helped with tanking for years!

West could trade Battier for a new Gay. Food for thought.

Let's hire West and trade him to the Lakers for Rudy. Perfect symmetry.

personally think that Mr. Clutch has his eyes on opportunities with either the Sacto or Golden State teams,
both are only 50 min flight from his platical estate in Bel Aires.

Because he managed to convince a ton of stars to go to Memphis while there?

That was a real coup, convincing Kobe to sign after acquiring his draft rights. There couldn't have been more than 29 other GMs at the time who could've pulled that off.

Wow, talk about a guy who gets it done on every team he's been on.

It'd be great to find a way to get this man aboard. Adds alot of clout to a front office that seems to lack a legitimate big name closer. I mean, does it get any better in terms of legacy than Mr. NBA himself? He's a proven winner on all the teams he's been involved in.

Jerry West Mojo on an emerging Rocks?
    Yes please!

he would literally gut our team and trade them to the lakers for a bag of chips. or even worse sashas or waltons.

Where did this idea come from? As I recall, West already left the Grizz when the Gasol trade went down.

Not to mention any GM with a brain, plenty of capspace, owner's approval to give the biggest contract in NBA history, and works for the LA Lakers would've been able to lure Shaq, who was working on his rap/movie career at the time.

I like Jerry West, and think he's one of the better GMs in the league. But at the same time, he's also incredibly overhyped.
