You don't give up your best chips for a one year rental.

It all depends on who we give up for him. We'd definitely have to give up some of our cherished younger pieces to get the Nuggets to bite. Brooks, Bud, Hill, maybe even Martin? Would that be worth it for a one-year rental? Not sure since it'd be hard to find equal value for Brooks and Bud and equal quality at the 2 for Martin.

The best scenario is to pull in a third team and dupe them into giving up a major piece while we dump some role players and cap space on the third team.

I can't see Morey taking a risk of trading assets for Melo when he isn't under contract. That would hurt Houston for Melo to walk away.

I think Morey would rather target guys that are already under contract.

it's either Lee or Martin, but I don't think Denver wants Lee.

Unless a guy wants to play for your team or has a long term contract, you can't stop him from playing where he wants to go.

Unless Paul and Melo say I want to play for Houston, and backs it up by signing an extension or a sign and trade scenario, I wouldn't gamble trading our young talent and draft pick future for a player who more than likely will leave us for his for his Miamiesqe vision in NY (I don't want the Rockets to look like Toronto or Cleveland did because their stars had made up their minds years ago).

I am more of the type who wants Daryl to trade up for a high draft pick/star in the draft. Homegrown, young and more than likely will resign long term if we are winning.

Corrected...People always seem to speak truth and fact when it is merely an opinion.

Even if that were true, how would that make our team better?!? I would rather keep Brooks and Martin. I would be fine with trading one and picks, but not both. Defeats the purpose IMO. Carmelo is no Kobe, Lebron, or D-Wade (the only players I would make that trade for).

I don't think anyone truly knows what Denver wants to do. What we do know is they're going to have to make a choice pretty soon on Melo. They have tons of contracts coming off the book this year.

The great thing about the Pacers is we know exactly what Bird wants to do. He's on expiring contracts, young cheap talent, and draft picks. They want to build their team through the draft. Denver is going to hurt badly if they can't decide what their plan is moving forward. Billups has a team option next year....

It would help if we had a superstar that other superstars would like to play with.

No doubt Melo isn't either of those guys but he is probably in the top three scoring. He scores easily.

Agreed, unless Anthony agrees to an extension or sign and trade (if that works while being under contract still), no way would I trade for him.

I couldn't agree more, and it wasn't a knock on Carmelo. I just wouldn't gut the team or break the entire bank to get him, especially without a guarantee for after this upcoming year.

He likely wouldn't even resign here. His wife is pushing hard for a move to New York.

If we went after Melo or Paul....don't you think the other guy still with his original team would think "Man I'd really like to join ____ in Houston. Forget Amare, we can make another trio with Yao."?

There's no doubt we have enough assets to get one of these stars...but two?
    Is it (legitimately) possible?

Give up two starters for a guy who might not resign? Insanity.

    Where is the glamor? NYC.
    Where is his wife? NYC.

    Knicks or Nets.

Im not a salary expert, but it would require moving alot of salary off of our books and even if that was a possibility, Im not sure it would be worth it.

Yeah I'm not sold on trading for him if we can't get him to sign an extension. It would be pointless IMO.

I don't see us getting Danny Granger either, Indiana has a great foundation now that they have a stud young pg in Collison. Honestly I'm thinking that Iguodala is our best bet at the deadline unless Morey can a commitment somehow from Melo.

damn!! I really don't think we have a shot on Melo! Really guys! Unless the Nuggets will settle for AB, Scola and Martin then i will take it with a heartbeat! But not for a year rental. HELL NO!
