In a way I'm glad Francis didn't play for the dream team.

I'm not. I think Franchise would have been a big difference for that team. He would have wrecked the rest of the world's guards. He's bigger, stronger, faster, more athletic. Why wasn't he on the team? One excuse and misconception they had was Stevie is a show-boater, well Steve does get a little eccentric at times but he's just having fun at what he does. We love it, right guys, why, because he's one our team. Other people don't like it because he's probably tearing up their team. If they'd have put him on that team they would have had no regrets about "show-boating", because he would have been on the whole country's team. My point is this, so called show boater or not Steve should have been there. Take that, Stu!!!

I agree.... I think Steve would have really been a big difference at the games. I bet he would have brought a crowd and I'm seeing highlights and excitement at the games.... I also see a gold medal. This team was just a bunch of "some people" from the NBA. Geese... about a decade ago we had Dream Team 1...they were just...WOW!.. Man the name "Dream team" really has lost its pizzazz..

wasn't it because 1) steve was injured and 2) the guys picking the team had a grudge against steve from his rejection of the grizzlies... dunno. after kidd and payton, picking steve was a no-brainer, or so i thought. but instead they opted for andre miller, baron davis, and jay williams... when people let politics and petty emotions get in the way of basketball, bad things are bound to happen...

That's what I meant when I said, "Take that, Stu", referring to Stu Jackson, the former Vancouver Grizzlies GM.

I disagree. Steve is just a carbon copy of Davis and Miller (individualist).

Steve would have helped but Baron Davis should have been able to wreck the other teams as well.

From what I saw it was lacklusteer forward/center play that did the US in.

Why does everyone here wish Francis was on the Dream Team? It's just one more way for him to get injured. Also, it could contribute to fatigue later down the year.

He plays pickup games everyday at either Fonde' or Westside anyway. So what's the difference, statement like that show why the U.S lost at the W.C's. Oh he might get hurt, oh it's gonna make me tired during the season. Play for your country that's the bootom line, cause it's the TRUTH!

True, fatigue is an issue. But this could be the same excuse all players will
use to NOT represent the US Team. If that's the case, no one would
    sacrifice their summer.

Also, please stop calling them the "Dream Team." There was only ONE Dream
    Team (BARCELONA - 1992).

If nothing else, Steve should have been there instead of "Jay" Williams for sure.

I just had that thought cross my mind not too long ago, in the wake of reading an espn article saying that Steve was "The poor man's Allen Iverson"

So would that mean Baron Davis is "The really really poor Ethiopian man's Allen Iverson"?

    :)

Assists is not a good stats to show lack of selfishness. A guy who has the ball in his hands for most of the possesion, will get 10 assists by accident.

Miller doesn't really pass the ball a lot. Cassell averages like 9 assists per game, same with Van Exel (when he started), but that doesn't mean they are team players.

This is akin to assuming Francis is a good defender because he gets a lot of steals.
