Everyone is always quick to say that Yao Ming only gets voted into the All-Star game because of the Chinese votes. If thats the case, then why don't those same Chinese people vote in the rest of the Rockets that are on the NBA All-Star ballot? Yea I know none of our guys really deserve to be starting All-Stars, but who cares if they get voted in by them? Not me I know I always vote in every Rocket thats on the All-Star Ballot when I spend the time doing it, so the Chinese people should do the same!
Clearly you haven't paid much attention to the all-star voting over the last several years. Yao's teammates have generally gotten more votes than they deserve.
It's probably because the assumption that Yao Ming gets in the All Star game only because of the Chinese fans is not really true.
The Yao factor is helpful for some players, but when you look at what Morey is constructing, the team isn't made up of one All Star that dominates the offense and defense. It's starting to be a balanced effort that is more effective than teams with a "Big 2", and a bunch of bench players that don't contribute. Personally, I love that our boys in Red aren't recognized as much. I think it fuels them to beat everyone else. We're known as the hustlers of the league, and I think that's because our team is really, well, a team. It's not one player on a team, like Bosh in Toronto previously, for example.
The Rockets have a lot of good players, but Yao's been the only one who has deserved an All-Star selection over the past couple of years. The Chinese voting does affect results a bit, but I've always thought it was exaggerated. Past the first one or two players (the only ranks that matter for each position), which the fans usually get right or close to right, many players are getting joke or homer votes.
I'm still shaking my head over David Stern's selection of Jason Kidd for the all star game. Brooks should of been an all star last year and that would of sky rocketed hiss stock even further.
Why does everybody want Brooks to be an All-Star before we sign him to a longer deal? No need to inflate his value further before then.
Mo Williams was better than Brooks the past two years... playoff debacles notwithstanding. And even as a Rockets homer, I didn't feel like AB was worthy of an all-star selection last year. That said, there's something wrong if Kevin Martin doesn't get a nod this year if he's healthy. The guy's been glossed over multiple times for the game because of where he played. But that should change now that he plays with Yao.
People dont say he is only an all star because of his chinese fans, they say he gets more votes than he may deserve because of his chinese fans - he would still have been an all star because he was probably the best center in the league a season or two ago (when healthy and on his game.)
