I don't usually read power rankings or any of those "Top 10 players in the league" rankings because I think that usually there is a bias that the person takes toward their favorite player or team. In the case of this power ranking, I seem to agree where they put Steve and Cuttino in the top 50 players in the league. Here's the complete run down so far. 50. John Stockton 49. Eddie Jones 48. Raef LaFrentz 47. Bonzi Wells 46. Lamar Odom 45. Allan Houston 44. Kenyon Martin 43. Antonio Davis 42. Vlade Divac 41. Cuttino Mobley 40. Jalen Rose 39. Stephon Marbury 38. Michael Jordan 37. Ben Wallace 36. Richard Hamilton 35. Mike Bibby 34. Rashard Lewis 33. Latrell Sprewell 32. Pau Gasol 31. Glenn Robinson 30. Shareef Abdur-Rahim 29. Sam Cassell 28. Jamal Mashburn 27. Predrag Stojakovic 26. Steve Nash 25. Shawn Marion 24. Karl Malone 23. Jermaine O'Neal 22. Antonio McDyess 21. Jerry Stackhouse 20. Ray Allen 19. Baron Davis 18. Michael Finley 17. Rasheed Wallace 16. Andre Miller 15. Elton Brand 14. Steve Francis http://www.hoopsavenue.com/ What do you guys think...
Yeah, you are pushing it... Cat's not better than Finley. I'll give you Cassell, just 'cuz Sam's selfishness is terrible these days. Cat has... ahem... dominated the ball a bit in the past, but nothing like the me-first crap that Sam pulls.
Cat is a SHOOTING Guard mkay. He takes his job seriously mkay. Now that I think about it, Finley was on that USA team that lost 2 in a row. Cat over Finely hands down.
Ok here are some of Finley's and Cat's numbers: Cat: 21.7 ppg on 18.4 shots per game 2.5 apg 4.1 rpg 1.47 spg Finley: 20.6 ppg on 17.8 shots per game 3.3 apg 5.2 rpg 0.94 spg I don't know about you, but Cat's pretty close to Finley. I might give Finley a SLIGHT edge, but that is a very slight one. I only guve it to him since he's been good for a while.
Well, let's see, by process of elimination... In no particular order (how would you rank them?): 1. Shaq 2. Kobe 3. Tim D. 4. T-Mac 5. P-Pierce 6. JKidd 7. Zo 8. CWebb 9. KG 10. Dirk 11. Iverson 12. Payton 13. Vinsanity I think that should do it... can we honestly say that Stevie is above any of these guys yet? The Glove would be the closest I'd say due to age, but he's still done more in the League than Steve has -- for now...
Steve is put ahead of some damn fine players, and deservedly so, but I would like to see Cat bumped up some spots. Overall, not a bad list.
I agree with the list for the most part but I just can't believe how badly Wells is ranked, he's way better then that, for example Houston and Martin, that's just a joke, and on top of how good he already is, he will just keep improving. I also think that he is better then Mobley.
Yeah, I agree about the statement about Mobley. I think when you compare Mobley to other players; you are really comparing Mobley's raw skill to the other player's potential. We all know that Mobley is a good player, but at this point in his career he is probably at his limits (which of course are pretty good anyways.) Other players that can avg. the same stats as the Cat have the advantage because they have more room to grow.
I take it back about Finley, he not only contributed to 2 U.S losses he contributed to 3. Another thing, about this "list" how is the starting power forward for the Eastern Conference in the all-star game not considered one of the top 50 players in the league. Where is Antoine Walker? Huh.
Wells is not better than Cat. Neither is Rip at this point either. A.Davis, Divac and Martin are way too low--those guys are top 30, top 40 at the highest. McDyess is way too high. He was totally ordinary when I saw him play late last year.
That's the first time I've seen Cat ranked in any of those top 50 player rankings. He should still be ranked a little bit higher IMO.
There is no doubt in my mind that Wells is better then Cat, his defense is clearly better. Offensively Cat has a better jumper but I'd rather have Bonzi scoring for me, he has a great low post game, his slashing ability is unequaled, and his shot isn't pretty to look at but it goes in somewhat.
