Blockbuster Video (1998-2001) - CSR/Assistant Manager - This was the first job I ever applied for and got hired on to work the Fri-Sat-Sun shift that no one else wanted to work. I was promoted to assistant manager within the first three months and overall it wasn't a bad job at that time in my life. I was going to school at the same time so I worked mainly closing shifts but I had fun and got all the free rentals I wanted. The best thing was that I had access to the movies before they hit the shelves since all the new releases were delivered to the stores 7-10 days for their release date. I actually miss the camaraderie at times. Time Warner Cable (2001) - Call Center - I absolutely hated this job. I had to go through three weeks of training before I ever hit the floor. There were scripts for every situation and they did not want us deviating from these scripts. Our calls were secretly monitored by our supervisors all the time just so that they could have ammunition to flex their power by correcting everything we supposedly did wrong. My last night there was the the night of a Mike Tyson PPV. Our computer system went down and it seemed like at least half of Time Warner's subscribers had ordered the fight but were unable to get the fight to show through their cable boxes. There were over 100 calls on hold. I walked out and never came back. U.S. Interactive (2001-2004) - Call Center - This company was behind the defensive driving bundles that were available at Blockbuster Video. Since I had previously worked at Blockbuster I had a pretty easy time getting the job considering I already knew how the system worked. This job was mainly answering phones and helping customers out by registering them or testing them. I started out working evening shifts but eventually ended up on graveyard shift. I loved the graveyard shift since it was dead most of the time. It was just two of us and we'd watch TV all night while answering a few calls per hour. We also did TABC testing so if you ever worked at Chili's or TGI Friday's and had to be TABC certified there's a good chance we've talked before. Lone Star Overnight (2004-Current) - Driver - I took this job because I was tired of being in an office environment. I wasn't sure how much I'd like it but I ended up loving it. I started out as a courier (similar to Fed-Ex) and did that for four years before taking a position as a line haul driver. I do a little warehouse work but the majority of my time on the clock consists of me driving from Houston to Corpus Christi every night, switching vehicles with another driver, and then driving back to Houston followed by a little more warehouse work. It's a nice stree-free job.
I have tons of work experience...over 15 years...problem is, the longest I've ever been anywhere is almost 5 years...been through two layoffs...i sent my resume to my g/f last week and she was a little freaked out by me not being anywhere that long...I guess she linked it to the committment thing...lol...
1975 - 77 - Gas station with 1 of the first pull through car washes in KCMO 1977-78 - Computer Operator for the largest Savings and Loan in IA. 1978-79 IA State - came home after getting a 0.9 - would have been lower if the incompletes counted. Good times. 1979 - Retail construction subcontractor helper in IA 1980-81 - KMart tired of living out of my billfold so I went back to school at UofH and worked part time 1981 - Montgomery Wards (1 day) 1981 - Waiter (1 month) 1981-85 - UPS sorter then manager 1985-90 - Computer Programmer at UTHSC (Fortran) 1990-97 - Computer Programmer (an AVP but they pass out those titles like candy) at Texas Commerce Bank (Fortran/C) 1997-Present - Computer Programmer at a large insurance company in TN. If we're just talking about professional... Jan 2000 - May 2000 - Litigation Assistant for a small law firm in downtown Austin. This job consisted of answering the phones and stuffing envelopes. I was happy to be fired because I spent the last month of it looking for another job. July 2000 - April 2007 - Account Manager for a restaurant equipment company. Loved the job for a while. Had a lot of freedom, but ultimately, there was no room for growth unless I wanted to become someone I'm not. I think the owner figured that out after 7 years and let me go. July 2007 - present - Account Manager for synthetic turf manufacturer. Basically helped start up a large mfg plant from the ground and have helped it grow into one of the largest in the US in just 3 years. Have a fantastic boss and the potential for more is there...assuming the company that recently bought us out doesn't decide otherwise for me and for the plant.

High School: Sacker at Safeway – lied on my application saying I was 16. I was making $50/day in tips which is like hitting the lottery for a high school schmuck like me. Assorted College Jobs: Sam’s in Conroe, Cashier/Stocker – I used to drive in from Huntsville 2 or 3 nights a week and weekends. Little Caesars, Jones Rd in Houston – This was my summer job while living at home Drummer in a country band – Made extra money playing but was required to wear a bolo. The good part was that the beer was always complimentary at the clubs we played.... Bongo player for SHSU Modern Dance Department – BEST JOB OF MY LIFE. $50/hour to play bongos while watching college co-eds dance in leotards. HOO-LEE JESUS. Too bad it was only 4 hours a week. Assorted gigs with jazz combo – Our jazz instructor used to book our gigs. “Professional” Jobs Enterprise Rent A Car, Assistant Manager – Pretty fun job but the work was hard and the hours were killer. The good thing was that 80% of the people in the company were younger than 30. We worked hard and played harder because we didn’t know any better. Parties (official and unofficial) were frequent and always a BLAST. I still miss those days sometimes. Executive Recruiter – Cold calling and working on straight commission was great when your pipeline was full but unbearable once it inevitably went dry. Chase Bank Assistant Manager – Not a bad job until the day we were robbed at gunpoint. I quit the next week and went to the call center. Chase Call Center – This was a 24/7 call center and there were never any supervisors on duty on the weekends, so me and the girl I worked with would drink rum and coke from a squirt bottle all day on Saturdays. I used to answer calls as Phil Hendrie characters. LOL. Current Coordinating mutual fund proxies for a large insurance company here in Houston. I’m also a freelance musician, a landlord, and a male prostitute.

During high school I worked at Pizza Inn, my local dentist shop doing random tasks and delivered pizza for Domino's. During college I worked for three semesters at Nortel Networks doing software development/programming for telecommunications stuff. Graduated in 2002 during the big dot com bubble bursting and couldn't find work in that field ANYWHERE. So, I did odd jobs and crappy web development for crappy small businesses who didn't know crappy webpages from good ones (I used freaking Frontpage of all things) until my car crapped out on me and I couldn't afford to get another one. Moved back home and found a job at a chemical storage company called LBC doing clerical work in the Traffic department for 2.5 years. Got a call one day from a person working for an old family friend who was the manager of the Control Systems department for an engineering firm, CDI. Got hired on as a Control Systems Engineer even though I knew nothing about the field. Worked my way up quickly there until the company started losing business (this even before the current economic downturn). Left there to work for Jacobs Engineering as a Control System engineer and have been there about 2.5 years now.
