This is the only question that matters and the only question it would be ridiculous to guess at. Everybody hopes he stays healthy. Anybody who guesses right, one way or another, just got lucky. Give him until the all-star break and then maybe this poll would make sense. Not more than a year since he's been in a game and played contact basketball.
DD How would you like it if somebody made a poll asking whether you would suffer from a terrible injury next month? Very insensitive of you I have to say.
I voted yes because if he does I want to say that I believed in him the whole way, and if he doesn't DD won't bump this thread to rub it in the naysayers faces because he'll be too ashamed and I'll never have to face the fact that I was wrong. I CAN'T LOSE!
Ok - I voted yes, he will be healthy. I f he hisn't, well, the Rockets are going to win anyway. Love to have the big man for the playoffs - all I gotta say.
I'd say he'll miss around 5 games again, with reduced minutes. but he'll be primed for playoffs, which is what really matters anyway.
I think he is gonna be healthy and play limited role in the first half of the season, however, I don't see him 20-10 guy but I can definitely see him averaging 16-8.
I don't understand this thread: Shouldn't we all wish and hope for a healthy Yao? If he is healthy then we can trust his work ethic and the organization that he will be playing at an elite level. I also don't understand your reasons for thinking that the doctors got it right specifically for this season: care to highlight some info that I haven't picked up on? Essentially, this is a poll to separate the optimists and pessimists of Clutchfans?
i cant believe its not butter! lol but really i think he will be good like DD said the drs have got it right, i dunno if he will be the yao ming we knew in the past but he will be back and i believe giving us 20pts 10rbs a game
I think he'll play around 65-70 games this season, but the missed games will be for bumps and bruises and precaution stuff, so I voted yes.
I'm waiting for the "Will Yao have a bowel movement this morning?" thread...it's important no? The implications of any bowel disease may have dire consequences (which, of course, will never be the same) on the season...
ppl here kinda misunderstood each other. when DD started this thread, he actually combined two questions in one. i don't know if he realized it or not. 1st, foot injury, a stress fracture on his left foot, is the reason he missed more than a year acitivities. this is what some of us focused on and we believe he will be healthy in the sense of left foot stress fracture. why? we trust technology and we trust the medical society. 2nd, will all parts of his body but left foot will stay healthy? since he turns 30, his size and years playing bb may finally catch him up. as you're getting old, you are more or less becoming a victim to any accident than young ppl. it's very easy to understand it because your reaction time and flexibility are getting worse as your age goes up. however, accidents are unexpected as its definition states. so the chance his foot can hold during a season plus playoff is way better than one that he might run into an accident in and/or off the court.
I voted no for these reasons: 1. I think he will be recovering all season if there is no new injury- in other words he will play less than 100% for most of the regular season. 2. At that point minutes played will determine how much wear and tear he is carrying into the playoffs. 3. Well historical analysis lends itself to him missing some games due to some type of future injury- very big man taking a pounding on any physique runs high % exposure to injury. 4. Yao by nature of playing in the paint, rebounding, shot blocking is high risk for stepping on a foot or coming down wrong. 5. I think there will be pressure on the coach to play him minutes as the season goes on, especially if we are near .500 and hanging around the 8th seed.
