I always thought Shaq was very classy guy and respectful. I never thought for any time that he played there Kobe was betterthan him and i still dont think Kobe is a better player than Shaq and thus not better than Micheal Jordan or Hakeem Olajuwon. Let alone Abdul Jabar and Bill Russell.
Oh, you definitely have a choice and you made the choice to put your ignorance on display. No 1989? He averaged 25 ppg and led the NBA in rebounding, First Team All-NBA, 5th in MVP votes. I think that probably qualifies as a great year. No 1990? 24ppg, led NBA in rebounding and blocked shots, Second Team All-NBA, First Team All-Defensive, 7th in MVP votes. Most rational people would consider that a great year. In those two years, which you don't consider great, Dream finished in the Top 10 in points, rebounds, blocks and steals. Greatness. In 1991 he missed 20 + games but still averaged 21 ppg, 14 rbg, and 4 bpg... perhaps not a great season by Dream standards, but definitely a bunch of great games (and really, it's hard to argue against 21/14/4 being less than great, but since he missed some games, I won't push this one). In 1992, he missed some games and was dogged by injuries, but still managed to get over 21 ppg, 12 rbg, 4 bpg, almost 2 spg, and First Team All-Def. If you just look at those blind stats outside the context of this thread, most sane people would say that's a great year.
This came up in spurstalk in a kobe v hakeem thread, I really hope this doesn't turn into what that did! Showing all those "good" years with nearly nothing around him really shows how much a good team matters in GOAT talk. As for someone that watched Dream play all those "good" years, I'll let you know they were much better than good years. All you need to say is he was great from 84-98 with the exception of Cartwrights elbow to the eye socket year. Let's not downplay what he did on bad teams which he still managed to get into the playoffs
Is this the kind of qualitative argument one makes to counter someone who argues with all stats and numbers?

So what is the peak of Shaq? by your logic, it would be one like 99-03, but he had great years before and after that
