I agree. I seriously was anticipating Ariza playing with Yao. Martin and Ariza, I thought would shine when Yao is on the floor. This is a bummer but I guess Morey knows better...

You know Battier has his annual minor injuries that will have him out for some games also as he is getting older? So you are just prolonging the inevitable Budinger starting process. Which he starts with Battier injured at some point and nobody to back him defensively on some nights. Should he have no Battier to look to replace him on defense because of injury to Battier? Then thats also worse for him. So lets get it over iwth and start the Budinger era. Ease Battier into a defensive specialist role when Budinger cant handle some guys or is off on some nights.

I think they've begun grooming Chase Budinger as our starting SF in the coming years. Shane will get it the beginning of the year, but will eventually make way for Chase off the bench as the season unfolds.

annual injuries? ...it's been only two the last two years, and the latest one was not due to age, as any player who get's his knee taken out will suffer.

Courtney Lee reminds me of Von Wafer. Watching the highlight videos, thats what he comes off to me as. Shoot the three, pull up mid range shot, and pretty good athletic ability at the two spot. I think you have to be happy with this trade. Ariza was expendable, and obviously the team felt Budinger could contribute on the defensive end as well.

Nope...he gave them nothing. Isn't' that why they got rid of him after one year? Guy just isn't a scorer. He could only muster 12 points in 33 minutes a game in an offensive vacuum that needed someone to fill it. Expect him to average 8 points a game in 20 minutes for the Rockets.

Battiers not making it through another full 82 game season at this point in his career. Its already started that progression where a athlete gets more nagging injuries as they age. Obviously most Rockets fans pickup very slow on these trends before I do. So of course i dont expect anyone to agree with me on that. Budinger will be starting at some point for at least 10 games this season due to Battiers nagging injuries and then perhaps for some 20 for him to recover. I know people just couldnt see Yao and Tmac coming from a mile away. Well some cant and still wont on some other players. Expect Courtney Lee to start for Martin in some games due to injury and for Budinger as well over Battier. These things are really very simple to see. You look at history, age, person, progress. Its really easy to chart those things yet most Rockets fans are not capable of determining that one factor.

We did the same with Alston and Lowry. We traded an inefficient player(Alston and Ariza) for a young, cheap backup guard with potential(Lowry and Lee) and opened up a spot for a young star(Brooks and to a lesser extent, Budinger). Budinger doesn't have the expectations Brooks had when he was handed the starting role but in this trade we save $10million as well. I think it's likely this is a prelude to a bigger deal whether it be this summer or at the deadline.

This isn't a "I told you so" but someone strongly disliked when I brought up the Francis signing as an example of where Morey went on to wax lyrical about Les's willingness to pay the tax as an example of it all being P.R...

    LT: $70.307M
Rockets team salary: $71,846,157 (not incl. non-guarant'd contracts)

Rockets need to shed another $1,352,641 to get under the tax.

Future salary dump candidates possibly Hill or Hayes? If they make a move for smaller but longer term contracts I'd guess Jeffries or Battier who the can be shed for at least $1.4M less in return?

Excellent, Courtney Lee wins championships. This trade came from no -where. What's the purpose? Courtney Lee is hardly even a better offensive player than Ariza and there is a HUGE dropoff defensively, I dont care if Morey made the deal, I REALLY dont like it, Ariza was given 1 year in a rockets jersey? And not even a single one playing with Yao? I dont understand why Ariza get's so MUCH HATE, this thread just picks out a scapegoat for practically any loss, and I bet that either AB or Kevin Martin becomes that scapegoat now.

    Hmmm my two cents:

    Nets:
-probably one of the biggest losers in this deal. Murphy is overpaid, defenseless and always injured. Sure he might give spacing to Favors and their center...but meh, I think I'd rather have C-Lee. Honestly I think its a step back.
    Grade: D-took a step back

    NO:
-$$$ wise a good move as Posey is drastically overpaid. He doesn't make the same as Ariza, FYI, he makes almost double as his contract started at 8M and god knows how long that is. Courtwise, Collison is pretty good but remember he's only coming off a rookie season. Might be more flash than substance at this point. Ariza gives CP3 a younger yet cheaper and better version of Posey: gives them a good defender who can hang with quick pgs and sgs, can score in transition and in bunches, and can hit stand-still 3's at a decent clip. TA is not worth Collison court-wise, but add the salary dump and the fit next to Cp3 and it doesn't look as bad. They have the highest risk in this trade though, if collison projects to be 8/10 what Cp3 is they are the biggest loser.

Grade: C+-risky move, losing a potential franchise PG for Ariza and $$$ might not be worth it. Would it have been better to trade CP3 instead and move forward with Collison and some quality pieces? I guess we'll see. On a side note, so much for him and Melo going to NY together *snicker*

    Pacers:
-I don't know who killed Bird and replaced him with a clone, but "dark" Larry Bird is doing really well these days with a combination of both luck and skill. First they lucked out in the draft when the Jazz took Gordon Hayward (saving Bird from his own white boy racist tendencies), now they dupe the Nets and NO from giving up prime talent. Posey is indeed a poison pill, but they make up for it by dumping Murphy, who IMHO is one of the most overrated players on this board. I'm not sure on the numbers, but Posey might actually turn out to be cheaper than Murphy. If this is true, damn....the pacers just got a top 5 lottery pg (and probably the best "pure pg" in the draft last year) for free.
    Grade: A+

    Rockets:
-Well, let's put DD's soul to rest and agree this is indeed a salary dump. However as far as salary dumps are concerned this is pretty much top-of-the-line. Ariza is a pretty good player on a very cheap contract for his talent and age, but the 10 Mill savings is nothing to sneeze at. I know a lot of people here would rather trade Battier, but Ariza also exhibits a lot of the "diva" attitude found within Kobe and Tmac, so maybe he isn't glue-guy material afterall.

C-Lee is basically what Ariza was supposed to be when he got here. He isn't as long or as athletic as Ariza, but I guess you can think of him as a beggar Brandon Roy but with better D. He's a good all-around scorer who doesn't mind playing hard-nosed D, and despite that missed layup he generally makes good play. Actually he might be a better fit for this team and Adelman, as a backcourt of Brooks, Lee and Kevin Martin would give us a trio of good 3 pt shooters and all around scorers in crunch time. Sucks for JT though. A trade for other pieces along with Jeffries, perhaps?

Grade: B. Salary dump but lateral move talent-wise. We should have gotten Collison instead. Oh well.

Good Lord people. If Budinger started with our starting 5, we would be the worst starting defensive team in the league.

Shut up about Budinger. Shane is going to start.

The overratedness on this board for that guy is killing me. Stop over hyping the guy. Seriously.
